Dom v Tamarju - Zadnja Ponca / Ponza di Detro

Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora, we drive towards the border crossing Rateče, but only to a spot, where (in the village Rateče) road in Planica and valley Tamar branches off to the left. The road which moderately ascends soon brings us to a large parking lot at ski jumping hills in Planica. From here we continue on a macadam road in the direction of Dom in Tamar, which we then follow to the parking lot, which is located near the mountain hut.
The road into a valley Tamar is now closed. This extends the path for approximately 1 hour.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road past the mountain hut and go on a footpath following the signs Jalovec, Ponce. The path run through the forest and soon brings us to a crossing, where we go right following the signs Srednja Ponca, Visoka Ponca. The left path leads ahead through the valley towards the saddle Kotovo sedlo and Jalovec. The path brings us out of the forest and starts ascending right from a smaller stream. The path turns again to the right and starts ascending through dwarf pines on a quite steep slope. The path then turns a little to the left and past a smaller cave brings us again in the forest through which we are for quite some time ascending. After few steep ascents through the forest, the path brings us out of the forest and it brings us to first steel cables on the path. Here the path turns to the right and steeply ascends. The steepness soon decreases and then follows crossing the slopes towards the north. Towards the end slopes become already pretty steep and there are also some steel cables for help. The path then turns to the left and starts again ascending a little steeper all the way to the main ridge of Ponce. On the ridge, we then go right and to the top of Srednja Ponca only few more meters of ascent follows.
From the top of Srednja Ponca we then return to a crossing and then we continue on the ridge following the signs »Bivacco Tarvisio«. Ridge is becoming narrower and then follows a descent into notch Rdeča škrbina. On the notch path turns on the Italian side and after a short exposed crossing ascends almost vertically on narrow exposed path. Fixed safety gear on this part of the path are ruined and useless therefore quite some caution is needed. After that, the path crosses steep slopes on the Italian side of the ridge and then it ascends towards the ridge. A short ascent follows on a slightly exposed ridge to the top of Zadnja Ponca.
