Gruska jama - Gruska jama (circular path, counterclockwise)

Access to starting point:
A) From the direction Podčetrtek or Bistrica ob Sotli: in Prelasko by the main road between the both mentioned settlements we turn towards the west: direction Kozje. When we drive past Buče and get closer to Vrenska Gorca, we pay attention to the bus stop, where on the bus shelter is clearly written "Gruska jama". Immediately after the bus stop we turn around "for 180 degrees" and we drive to the resting place after the bus stop on the opposite side of the road. At the rest area we park on an appropriate place.

b) From the direction Kozje: at the roundabout, which next to industrial area at Kozje "cuts" the main road between Šentjur and Podsreda, we turn towards the northeast: direction Prelasko. When we drive past Ješovec and get closer to Vrenska Gorca, we pay attention to the bus stop, where on the bus shelter is clearly written "Gruska jama". A little before the bus stop on the same side of the road, we drive to the resting place after the bus stop. At the rest area we park on an appropriate place.

Path description:
Warning 1:
Part of the path by the left bank of the stream runs on a very narrow and very steep stairs, a walk on this part is not recommended, if we have a vertigo or our feet do not allow us to walk up the stairs. We still can we reach the source on a relatively gentle path on cart tracks by the right bank of the stream (see first part of the bottom description) and we return on the same path.

Warning 2:
As mentioned, by the left bank of the stream the path is very narrow, therefore, it is very difficult to pass someone. During the busy hours, which can be deduced from the number of vehicles parked at the rest area, it is recommended, that all visitors follow the same direction, at least on the part of the path by the left bank of the stream.


Description of the path:

An arrow below the information board at the rest area recommends, that we go right, i.e. in counterclockwise direction. So we go along the road in the direction towards Kozje and after few meters we turn left on the first cart track. While walking on the cart track, on the left side we have to pay attention, that we don't overlook the column with an arrow, which again points us left. On the path by the edge of the forest we reach the footbridge over the stream and we cross it. Here the official part of the path actually only starts, because from here further, the path is covered with sawdust, and by the path, there are also some educational boards. Initially a quite gentle path brings us to a crossing, where we can left on a "dead end" and still quite gentle section come all the way to the source below 30 meters wall. From the source we return back to the crossing, and here begins the section on very steep and narrow stairs, which is secured with a steel cable fence. Somewhere on the path towards the top there is one more "dead end" turn off left towards the cave Puščavnikova jama. The path there is otherwise gentle and also secured with a steel cable fence, but it is narrow and carved in almost vertical wall, so it is not recommended for visitors with vertigo. From there we return back to the crossing and on still steep stairs we continue all the way to the top. The path ends at the exit from the resting place at the starting point, which is situated on our left.
