Ljubelj - Dobrča (Bornova pot)

Access to starting point:
We drive to the border crossing Ljubelj, where before the tunnel we turn left towards Zelenica. Then we drive across a small bridge, after that on a parking lot we descend to the bottom south part of the parking lot, where we park.

Path description:
At the end of the parking lot, we notice signs for mountain pasture Preval, which points us on the path Bornova pot. At first, we diagonally ascend through smaller scree, and then the path passes into the forest, where with some shorter ascents and descents crosses steep slopes towards the left. Forest is soon replaced by steep rocky slopes, through which leads wide and on exposed spots also secured path. With nice views on mountains, which are rising above Podljubelj we get to Born's tunnel, where for easier and safer moving forward is highly recommended to use a lamp. Somewhere in the middle of the tunnel is situated a bigger window, from which is a scenic view on surroundings, and we carefully continue through the second part of the tunnel. When we leave the tunnel, in which are in rain also some large puddles, follows few minutes of exposed crossing, and then behind the bench "Marijino počivališče (Marija's resting place)" we get to larger scree.
In a gentle descent, we also cross scree, and then the path gradually starts ascending diagonally. At first, we are still ascending through the steep slopes, after that at first the slope flattens, and higher footpath widens into a cart track. Higher follows crossing of grazing fence, and then the path brings us out of the forest, and in few 10 strides of additional walking, we ascend on Preval, where there is a marked crossing.
From the crossing, we continue left (right Begunjščica) and we walk to the shepherd hut.
Hut, from which a beautiful view opens up, which reaches all the way to Triglav, we bypass on the left side, and we continue in the direction of Dobrča. The marked path towards Dobrča, on which we continue, further on the left side bypasses unnamed peak, and when the path returns on the ridge, we reach it on the saddle between Čisovec and unnamed peak.
On the mentioned saddle marked path towards Dobrča turns right downwards (straight unmarked path on Čisovec) and passes on the western slopes of Čisovec, where the path leads diagonally through occasionally quite steep slopes. Next follows a longer crossing on badly maintained path, which is usually full of leaves, and because of erosion on many spots also a little damaged. Further, we cross few gullies, after that slope becomes less steep, and from the path occasionally a view opens up a little towards Begunjščica, Stol, Julian Alps, Gorenjska... Even a little further, we reach the south ridge of Čisovec, where the path starts descending (here we can few steps from the path, we notice site of auriculas, usually in April or May), and occasionally opens up also a view on Kamnik Savinja Alps. Lower path descends even steeper, and then it brings us on a saddle Vrh Luž, where from the left joins an unmarked path past waterfall Tominčev slap, and from the right path from the stream Črni potok.
We continue straight, mainly on a ridge, on which we are occasionally ascending. Later from the right joins also the path which leads over Ledene trate, and our path further gradually from the ridge turns a little right and passes on steeper and steeper slopes of Dobrča. Next follows a diagonal ascent through steep slopes, where in wet additional caution is needed, and then the path flattens and over a grazing fence brings us on a cart track, and there we walk to the edge of the mountain pasture Podgorska planina, where there is a marked crossing.
We continue left in the direction of the summit of Dobrča (straight mountain hut Koča na Dobrči 3 minutes), where the path leads past few cottages on Podgorska planina. Behind the cottages we continue slightly left and we ascend over panoramic part of the mountain pasture. Higher at first hard to follow path passes into the forest, and at the crossings we carefully follow the blazes. A little higher, the path for some time flattens and leads us past two crossings, and from both we continue straight in the direction of Dobrča. Next follows a short little steeper part and the path brings us to the top of Dobrča.
Ljubelj - Prevala 1:30, Prevala - Koča na Dobrči 2:30, Koča na Dobrči - Dobrča 30 minutes.
