Planina Blato - Škednjovec (on west ridge)

Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lesce towards Bled and forward towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards the lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where we come to a crossroad, where over a bridge at the church of St. John we continue right in Stara Fužina. Here at the crossroad at the chapel, we turn sharply left on an ascending road towards the mountain pasture Blato, mountain pasture Vogar and valley Voje. The road brings us to the spot, where a road toll and parking fee has to be paid, we follow it forward to the next crossroad, where we continue left (right Voje). At the next crossroad after some time we turn sharply right in the direction of the mountain pasture Blato (straight mountain pasture Vogar). We follow this road to the parking lot above the mountain pasture Planina Blato.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on a macadam road which past a gate in few steps brings us to a right turn. Here on the right few meters above the road, there is the beginning of the hunting path, which with the help of aluminum wire leads over shorter very steep slope. The path soon passes into the forest and turns slightly towards the right, where soon crosses a wide cart track (cairn). We further follow the footpath through the forest, which is ascending parallel with relatively steep cart track. Higher, the footpath turns to the left, and from the right joins the footpath which leaves the cart track approximately 15 minutes above the mountain pasture Blato.
The hunting path further continues through the forest with some shorter steep ascents and after a good hour of walking, it brings us to a smaller hunting cottage on the left side of the path. From the hunting cottage ahead, the path soon brings us out of the forest, where again joins the cart track. Next follows only a good five minutes of walking to the mountain pasture Krstenica, where a beautiful view opens up on Ogradi, Krn and Spodnje Bohinjske gore.
From the mountain pasture, we continue further on the path, on the western (left) side of the mountain pasture. Already after few ten meters, several smaller footpaths join into one, well visible path. The path ahead with some shorter ascents and descents crosses slopes of Krsteniški and Jezerski Stog. After approximately half an hour of walking from the mountain pasture Krstenica path brings us on a grassy terrain of abandoned mountain pasture Planina Jezerce. By trough with water we ascend few ten meters right upwards towards the saddle Jezerski preval. Here we leave the marked path and go left into a smaller valley below the scree, where we notice an unmarked footpath. The path which at first slightly ascends, then in a gentle descent crosses slopes below the cliffs on our right side. A little further, the path turns right and starts ascending on in parts poorly visible footpath. The path then through a series of smaller valleys brings us below the slopes of Prevalski Stog. Here in front of us we notice Mišeljski preval, which is situated between Škednjovec on the left and Prevalski Stog on the right. The path which in the last meters relatively steeply ascends brings us on the mentioned saddle. Below the saddle we reach the marked footpath which comes from the left, from the saddle Lazovški preval between Ogradi and Debeli vrh. We follow the footpath downwards towards the saddle Lazovški preval few minutes to with a cairns marked turn-off to the right into a valley between Debeli vrh and Škednjevec. (Possible is approximately equally long, more direct and more pathless variant, which we start sharply to the left on an appropriate place, soon when we first time notice a saddle Mišeljski preval, among grassy valleys, dwarf pines and upwards, until we reach a marked path between saddles and turn off into a valley). Through this valley by the foot of the south wall of Škednjovec we are ascending towards the mountain pass between Vrh Hribaric and Škednjovec. We can walk on the scree or we ascend on our own to the ridge on the left side and on it to mountain pass. On the mountain pass at first we enjoy by fantastic view on the north, which opens up (Kanjavec, Mišeljski Konec, Triglav, Rjavina, Mišelj vrh, Vernar, Tosc etc. are as clear as day), after that a helmet on the head and we start carefully climbing on the western ridge. Some cliffs we bypass on the right, but mostly we follow sharp, exposed, in parts overhang and crumbly ridge to the top. On the summit is smaller cairn.
The tour is very demanding, orientationally complicated. Mihelič recommends rope and escort of a guide. Carefully especially on descent.
A note: From the mountain pasture Blato to the mountain pasture Jezerce is undemanding unmarked footpath, from Jezerca to the juncture with a marked path poorly beaten footpath, from the cairn through the valley well visible footpath, marked with rare cairns, climbing on the left side of the valley is more looking for passages, and western ridge is 1st grade with some spot of 2nd grade of climbing.
