From Kranjska Gora over the border crossing Rateče we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio. Further, we drive on the old road towards Videm / Udine. Already after few kilometers from Trbiž / Tarvisio, the road into Ovčja vas / Valbruna branches off to the left. Here we turn left and we follow the road all the way to the mountain pasture Zajzera, where we park on a large parking lot.
Path description:
From the parking lot from where there is a very nice view towards the northern wall of Montaž we go on the path 611 on the right side of the chapel. We follow the signs for mountain hut Rifugio Grego and already at the beginning we start relatively steeply ascending through the forest, and later we also few times cross a macadam road which also leads towards the mountain hut Rifugio Grego. After that, the path turns slightly to the right and it brings us on a forested ridge from which a view opens up a little on the northern side. For a better view, we need to step on some of panoramic points on the edge of the ridge and in doing so some caution is needed because the ridge is precipitous on the northern side.
Further, we are still ascending through the forest and occasionally beautiful views opening up towards Montaž and Viš. Such a path we then follow all the way to the mountain hut Rifugio Grego where there is a breathtaking view mainly towards Montaž.
Macadam road at the mountain hut turns right and leads towards the nearby mountain pass Rudni vrh (Sella di Sompdogna), and we walk on a footpath to the signposts behind the mountain hut. Straight leads the path 651 towards the lake Laghetto di Somdogna and forward towards Krniška glavica (Jof di Sompdogna), and we go at the crossing left on the path 611 towards the bivouac Stuparich.
The path quickly brings us into the forest and it is soon descends a little steeper. Further, the path then mostly crosses slopes towards the south, and occasionally also a view opens up a little towards Višarje and Kamniti lovec. Later, the path turns a little to the right and it is still crossing slopes, and occasionally it also descends a little. Here we cross also few torrents and gullies, and from the path increasingly beautiful views start opening up also towards Viš and Montaž. Out of the forest we then pass into dwarf pines and then follows a light descent into a small valley to usually a dry riverbed of the torrent Scolo Carnizza where we join the direct path from the mountain pasture Zajzera. Here is also a marked crossing.
Further through the valley runs a little worse beaten path towards Krniška glavica and saddle Foran de la Grave, and we follow the signs for bivouac Stuparich and we at first cross the riverbed of a torrent. The path then starts ascending and it turns to the left. A relatively steep path then mostly runs through a thin larch forest, and higher by the path there are also some dwarf pines and bushes. Such a path then brings us to a marked crossing.
To the right leads the path towards the valley Dunja (Val Dogna) and Krniška glavica, and we continue left. From the crossing follows crossing of the slopes towards the east and the path soon brings us to bivouac Stuparich.
