Plattner - Gartnerkofel (direct way)

Access to starting point:
Over the border crossing in Rateče we drive through Trbiž / Tarvisio, Ukve / Ugovizza to the settlement Tablja / Pontebba, where we turn right following the signs »Passo di Pramollo / Nassfeld« (Slovenian Mokrine). On the mountain pass, we drive past the lake on the Austrian side, where at the crossroad we turn right on an asphalt road which brings us to the parking lot in front of the mountain hut Plattner.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road which already after few meters brings us to the signposts. We go right (path number 403) following the signs Gartnerkofel, and left path runs towards the mountain hut Watschiger. The path is then ascending through meadows and for a short time through a thin forest and past numerous streams. When we come out of the forest, the path turns slightly to the right and again starts ascending through meadows on which there is usually a lot of marmots. We soon come to a saddle Gartner sattel (1863 meters) on which we turn left (path number 412) towards the upper station of the cableway, which operates also in the summer time. From here we continue on a marked path by the ski slope which brings us to a crossroad where from the left joins the path past the mountain hut Watschiger. At the crossroad, we go right and the path starts ascending on the eastern side of Gartnerkofel and in 15 minutes brings us to a smaller saddle. On the saddle from which we already see a cross on the summit we turn to the left and we are ascending on a slope partly covered with grass. When from the left joins also the climbing path we have to the top only few meters of quite steep ascent.
