Podgrad - Grmadnik

Access to starting point:
From the east Ljubljana bypass highway, we go to the exit Ljubljana - east and we continue driving on the road Zaloška cesta in the direction of Zalog. Further, we drive on the main road towards Podgrad. In the settlement Podgrad we turn right through the underpass under the railway track and then we continue on a relatively narrow road in the direction towards Besnica and Janče. Only a little before the end of the settlement Podgrad we park on a parking lot on the left side of the road. In case if the parking lot is occupied, we can here turn right on a cart track by the information board and over a small wooden bridge cross the stream. And there is also some space for parking.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we first cross the main road and past the information board which describes the path Ostrovrharjeva pot we go on a cart track and through a small wooden bridge we cross the stream Besnica. The cart track turns to the left and it brings us to a crossroad.
Sharply right on a cart track or a macadam road leads the path Ostrovrharjeva pot by which there is also a signpost, slightly to the right also a shortcut branches off, which higher joins the path Ostrovrharjeva pot, and we continue straight on a gentle cart track. Gentle cart track then brings us to a grassy clearing on which we will also notice a hunting observatory. We still continue on a cart track which we can at this spot due to frequent mud also bypass on a footpath which runs by the edge of the clearing. After the clearing, the path brings us to a crossing.
Straight on a cart track leads a path towards old castle Osterberg, and we continue left on a narrower footpath where also a signpost for path Ostrovrharjeva pot points us to. From the crossing, the path at first slightly descends and then over a small wooden bridge crosses the stream Besnica. Here we are again at the crossing. To the right by the stream leads the path through the valley of the stream Besnica and forward towards the millstone quarry, and we follow the signs for path Ostrovrharjeva pot and we cross the asphalt road.
Here we start ascending a little steeper and the path soon brings us to a crossing. We continue right, and further we are then ascending diagonally towards the southeast. The path here runs through the forest, and occasionally through the trees still a view opens up a little on surrounding hills above the valley of the stream Besnica. Such a path then brings us to the ridge where there is a crossing.
To the left slightly downwards leads the path Ostrovrharjeva pot towards the summit Murjevka and forward towards the tourist farm Pri Lazarju. At the crossing, we continue right on a footpath, or we can also on continue a cart track which runs parallel with the footpath. The footpath at first runs right from the cart track, and a little later crosses it and then starts ascending a little steeper. Here from the path occasionally also a view opens up a little on surrounding hills and also towards the Alps. Higher, the path slightly descends and on some sort of saddle again brings us on a cart track.
Here from the cart track right upwards a narrow footpath branches off which leads on Grmadnik from the northern side. We can towards the summit ascend already on the mentioned footpath or we continue on a cart track and we at first bypass the peak on the left side. If we continue on a cart track, the path brings us to a crossing where there is also a sign of the path Borovničeva pohodna pot, which otherwise leads from Podgrad towards Janče.
At the mentioned crossing, we leave the cart track and we go sharply right on a footpath which leads on the ridge towards the summit of Grmadnik. The mentioned footpath is maybe slightly better beaten than the one from the northern side.
From the crossing, we are then ascending on a narrow footpath through the forest, which runs on Grmadnik from the southeastern side. On such path we then soon reach the peak.
