Access to starting point:
From the eastern Ljubljana bypass, we head to the exit Ljubljana - east and continue driving on Zaloška cesta in the direction of Zalog. Further, we drive on the main road towards Podgrad. In the settlement Podgrad, we turn right through the underpass under the railway track and then continue on a relatively narrow road in the direction towards Besnica and Janče. Only a little before the end of the settlement Podgrad, we park on the parking lot on the left side of the road. In case the parking lot is occupied, we can turn right here onto a cart track by the information board and over a small wooden bridge cross the stream. There is also some space for parking.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we first cross the main road and past the information board which describes the Ostrovrharjeva pot, we head onto the cart track and over a small wooden bridge cross the stream Besnica. The cart track turns left and brings us to a junction.
Sharply right on the cart track or macadam road leads the Ostrovrharjeva pot, by which there is also a signpost; slightly right branches off a shortcut which higher joins the Ostrovrharjeva pot, but we continue straight on the gentle cart track. The gentle cart track then brings us to a grassy clearing where we will also notice a hunting observatory. We continue on the cart track, which we can bypass here due to frequent mud on a path that runs along the edge of the clearing. Behind the clearing, the path brings us to a junction.
Straight on the cart track leads the path to the old castle Osterberg, but we continue left on a narrower path, directed there also by the signpost for the Ostrovrharjeva pot. From the junction, the path first descends slightly and then over a small wooden bridge crosses the stream Besnica. Here we are again at a junction. Right along the stream leads the path along the valley of the stream Besnica and further towards the millstone quarry, but we follow the signs for the Ostrovrharjeva pot and cross the asphalt road.
Here we begin to ascend somewhat more steeply and the path soon brings us to a junction. We continue right, and then diagonally ascend towards the southeast. The path here runs through the forest, but occasionally some views open up through the trees to the surrounding hills above the valley of the stream Besnica. Such a path then brings us to a junction where we first head left onto the ridge along which runs a cart track.
On the ridge, we then continue left on the cart track, directed there also by the marking for the Ostrovrharjeva pot. Right leads the path towards Grmadnik and further towards Janče. The path here begins to descend slightly and some views open up through the trees to the eastern side of the ridge. We continue further along the wide path on the ridge and soon reach a bench and information board describing curiosities on the Ostrovrharjeva pot.
A little behind the information board, we reach a junction where left branches off the path to the summit Murjevka, but we continue right on the wide path and in a gentle descent on the eastern side bypass the summit of Murjevka. Left then branches off a narrow path leading to the mentioned summit from the northern side, but we continue on the wide path. The path then begins to ascend again and brings us to a somewhat larger junction where there is also a bench on the left side.
Slightly left downhill leads a wide path towards the tourist farm Pri Lazarju, but we continue on the right cart track which ascends somewhat more steeply. After a short ascent, the path brings us to a larger clearing along which runs a power line. Here a nice view opens up towards Ljubljana and the surrounding hills. By the path there is also a bench. After crossing the clearing, the cart track turns into a narrow path and the final ascent through the forest to the summit follows. Due to the forest, there is not much view from the summit itself.
We can descend along the ascent path or past the tourist farm Pri Lazarju and then through the settlement Podgrad back to the starting point.
