Rifugio Pelizzo - Monte Mataiur/Matajur (via Dom na Matajure)

Access to starting point:
From the road Tolmin - Kobarid, in the settlement Idrsko to the left (from the direction Kobarid right) steep road branches off towards the village Livek. We go on the mentioned road which after approximately 5 km of ascent brings us in the mentioned village. We continue driving on a narrower road which runs into Italy. On the other side of the border, the road starts descending, and we follow it through villages Polava and Čepletišče / Cepletischis to a little bigger crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of village Matajur / Montemaggiore and mountain hut Rifugio Pelizzo. The road which is at first relatively steeply ascending, in the next crossroads, we follow in the direction of the mentioned mountain hut. We park on the settled parking lot right below the mountain hut Rifugio Pelizzo.

Path description:
From the parking lot at first we ascend on stairs to the mountain hut, and then we continue in the direction of "Monte Matajur" and "Dom na Matajure". The path ahead is moderately ascending on a panoramic grassy slope, from which beautiful views opening up on Slavia Friulana and Julian Alps. Higher, the path leads through a lane of raspberry bushes, and then it brings us to the marked crossing, where we continue left in the direction of "Dom na Matajure" (straight Matajur, right Livek).
Immediately after the crossing, the path entirely flattens and then continues to cross panoramic grassy slopes towards the left. This pleasant and nicely settled footpath, we follow all the way to the mountain hut, which we reach after a little less than 10 minutes of walking from the crossing.
From Dom na Matajure we continue right and a moderately steep path which runs on a relatively gentle ridge we follow all the way to the top of Matajur. From Dom na Matajure, to the top we need approximately 15 minutes.
