Access to starting point:
Access from Gorenjska: From Rateče or Predel we cross the border to Trbiž / Tarvisio and then we continue on a highway in the direction of Videm / Udine to exit Tolmezzo. From Tolmezzo we follow the road in the direction of village Ampezzo and mountain pass Passo Mauria. The road then descends and it brings us to a crossroad, where we continue left (possible also right) in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo. At all next crossroads, we follow the signs for Cortina d'Ampezzo.
In Cortina d'Ampezzo then we follow the signs for Alpine mountain pass Passo di Falzarego. This ascending road we then follow to the mentioned mountain pass, and then we continue right towards the mountain pass Passo Valparola. On the mountain pass, we park on one of the parking lots near the mountain hut Rifugio Valparola.
From Primorska: We drive on the highway towards Venice / Benetke / Venezia. At town Portogruaro we leave the highway towards Venice and continue right on the highway towards Pordenone. At the next highway junction near Conegliano, we continue right towards the settlement Belluno. Near Belluno the highway ends and at the next crossroads we continue in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Further, we follow the description above.
Path description:
From the mountain hut Rifugio Valparola we continue towards the southwest following the signs »Settsass, Col di Lana«. After that, the path crosses grassy slopes on the right side of the lake Lago di Valparola and it brings us to a crossing. We continue left on the path number 23, right leads the path number 24 towards the summit Setsas.
From the crossing, the path slightly descends on a grassy slope and then brings us on little steeper slopes on the south side of the ridge of peaks Setsas and Le Pale de Gerda. On a shorter part, we also get help from fixed safety gear. The path then starts slightly ascending and crosses slopes towards the west. From the path, we have all the time a nice view towards precipitous south walls of the peak Setsas, we can also clearly see the ridge of peaks Monte Sief and Col di Lana. The path then soon brings us to another crossing, where the path branches off to the right upward, which leads below the steep mountain walls on the west side of the peak Setsas.
We continue slightly left on the bottom path and still mostly in a gentle ascent, we cross the slopes towards the west. Such a path then brings us on grassy slopes below the summit Picco Setsas from which a breathtaking view opens up towards the mountain group Sella. Here we continue left and on the path which leads by the fence we descend to a saddle Passo Sief.
On the saddle where there is a crossing, we continue left on the path Teriol Ladin and we cross the fence. After that, the path crosses grassy slopes and starts descending a little steeper below the slopes of the peak Monte Sief. Later, the path turns slightly to the left and below the slopes of the peak Col di Lana again starts slightly ascending. Further, the path leads us by rare bushes and it brings us to a crossing near the saddle between the peaks Col di Lana and Cenglei.
At the crossing where a view opens up towards the south we continue left and at first, we slightly descend. Then we continue on the path which runs on a grassy ridge towards the summit Cenglei. To the top only a short ascent follows on a wide grassy ridge.
On the way: Lago di Valparola (2140m), Passo Sief (2209m)
