Skaručna - Smledniški hrib (Stari grad) (via Zapoški hrib)

Access to starting point:
A) From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Ljubljana - Šmartno, and we follow the road to the mentioned settlement, where we turn right on the road which leads towards Vodice. On the mentioned road, we drive to the settlement Skaručna, where only a little after the inn Skaručna we get to NOB monument, which we notice on the right side of the road. And only a little ahead we leave the main road and we continue left on a narrower asphalt road which leads towards the underpass below the highway. When we come on the other side of the highway we park on an appropriate place by the road.
B) From highway Jesenice - Ljubljana we go to the exit Vodice and we continue driving towards Vodice. In the traffic light crossroad in Vodice we continue right towards Skaručna. When we get to Skaručna, we need to pay attention to the right turn-off of the road which is situated on the end of the light left turn. At the crossroad, where we leave the main road there is a power line pole and next to it electrical cabinet. Side road then leads us past few houses, after which we get to the underpass below the highway. On the other side of the highway we park on an appropriate place by the road.

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on the forest road which leads us over a small bridge, after which it splits into two parts. Some sort of "main" road turns at first left and then right, and "side" road right behind the bridge turns right, and we continue straight in the forest, where we notice old signs for castle Stari grad - path over Zapoški hrib. A gently sloping path continues through the forest, and after few minutes it brings us to a cart track, and which we reach right at the crossing. We continue straight and still follow the path by which there are some faded blazes and few more unofficial blazes in the shape of three lines, or Slovenian flag without coat-of-arms (white, blue and red). For a short time, we continue on the mentioned cart track, after that on one of the trees we notice barely visible signs (arrow on a tree), which point us to the right on a poorly visible and further quite overgrown footpath. The path ahead for some time runs almost horizontal, and then starts moderately ascending. Higher, we step on a cart track and we follow it to the left, and we also get help from caption or wooden signpost for castle Stari grad. On the cart track, we walk only few 10 strides, and then we continue right on very overgrown footpath which is at first ascending through high grass, and then also through a lane of overgrown bushes. Above the bushes we step into the forest, where the footpath becomes more distinct and less overgrown, and there in few minutes we get to a marked crossing, where we join the path from the settlement Repnje.
From the crossing, we continue left in the direction of the castle Stari grad (right Repnje and church of St. Tilen), where we quickly get to resting place Počivališče pri Črtu and NOB monument, which is situated in the memory of the mentioned Črt. Next follows several well-marked crossings, and we all the time continue in the direction of the castle Stari grad. Higher, we step out of the forest and the path brings us to the inscription box, and from where we continue straight (right Breclov klanec (also over Breclov klanec we can get to the castle Stari grad, because paths later join)) on a gentle path, which soon widens into a wide cart track. On the cart track, we gradually start descending, and "we ignore" at the first right turn off (path over Šternov hrib 515 meters and the path on Rakov hrib), and then also the left turn off, which leads towards "Dnevni". Only a little further, we step on a wide macadam road, where the path from Valburga joins from the left, and from the right path over Šternov hrib).
We continue on an ascending road, on which in few minutes we get to snack bar Stari grad and few steps higher also to the top of Smledniški hrib, on which there are renovated ruins of the castle Stari grad.
