Access to starting point:
We leave the Gorenjska motorway at the Hrušica exit and continue along the road towards Kranjska Gora. Just a short distance before the village of Dovje, a road branches off to the left from the main road, leading to Mojstrana (Vrata, Kot and Krma). We follow this road in the direction of the Vrata valley and drive along it to the road sign at approximately 10.5 km. Here, on the left side of the road, we will see a small parking lot and a road that crosses the river. We park in such a way that we do not block the crossing over the river (Triglavska Bistrica).
In winter, the road into Vrata is closed. This can lengthen our hike by 1 to 2 hours.
Path description:
From the parking lot we descend to the stream, cross it and on the other side turn onto the hiking path that climbs through the forest. After a few minutes of ascent, the path from Aljažev dom joins us from the right; we continue left, still through the forest. After about an hour's walk we leave the forest onto the scree slopes, where we turn right upwards towards the wall. Even in dry conditions the orientation is not difficult, as the path is well trodden.
When we reach the walls, we turn left and continue the ascent along the scree slopes, which in unfavorable conditions are dangerous for slipping or snow avalanches. The path continues along the right side of the valley until the steepness eases. In the upper part we walk through the valley full of large boulders.
The further route depends on the snow conditions. Usually we continue along the valley and then slightly to the left below Visoka Vrbanova špica. This part is quite steep; if there is little snow, rock outcrops can hinder the direct ascent (in that case we head right below Begunjski vrh and then traverse left). Above the steep section we reach the saddle, where a view of Triglav opens up. From here only a good five minutes' walk separates us from Staničev dom with the winter room, to which we descend slightly.
On the way: Za Cmirom (2113m), Begunjska vratca (2342m)
