Access to starting point:
Through Ljubelj tunnel we drive almost to the village Podljubelj/Unterloibl on the Austrian side. A little before the village above the road a wooden bridge spans with large caption "Tscheppaschlucht", and on the left we see a path, which comes from the parking lot. The path is one way, so we drive about 100 meters ahead and we turn left on an asphalt parking lot, which has three floors, so there aren't any problems with parking.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we go on a well-marked path, on which we at first cross Ljubelj road on a wooden bridge, which we saw from the road. The path at first leads us a little downwards, after few minutes of walking, we get to adrenaline park, and then wide footpath in barely noticeable ascent leads by the stream Loiblbach (on map Ljubeljska Borovnica) to "Goldenes Bruendel", where we have to pay tax for path maintenance (6.50 €, 4.50 € for kids, seniors and groups). To here we walk approx 20 minutes and here the gorge actually just begins.
The path ahead is quite boldly routed, the footpath is mostly narrow, equipped with numerous stairs and bridges, but it is very well made and secured (wooden and metal stairs, fence, in parts next to the fence on one side of the footpath and also additionally steel cable on the other side for help at ascending on some parts very steep stairs. After approximately an hour of walking from cashier's desk we come to a crossing, where we have more options: To the left by stream Ljubeljski potok in Loibltal (Brodi) towards the bus stop at the inn Deutscher Peter, or right towards the bridge Hudičev most - interesting hanging bridge (Teufelsbruecke) and waterfall "Tschauko" (on map "waterfall Šum"). From the waterfall you can continue in Slovenji Plajberk/Windisch Bleiberg or into a valley Poden/Bodental, and our path leads to a large parking lot at the inn Deutscher Peter in Loibltal. At the parking lot at the inn we wait for a bus, which takes us back to the starting point (bus runs once per hour, from Deutscher Peter runs everytime 10 minutes to full hour). Transport is free, because gorge ticket includes also the transport with a bus. If for the starting point you choose Slovenji Plajberk or Poden, you can also go to the starting point with a bus.
The path isn't appropriate for very small children, otherwise in spite of that, that it is quite "airy", it isn't exposed, because it is very well secured. Appropriate footwear are of course mountaineering boots, even with stronger sports shoes you can walk safely. On approximately half of the path you can use hiking poles, which at the beginning of narrow, steep stairs put on backpack, because they would be more in the way than help.
