Description of mountain:
Habicht (English "goshawk") is a broad and mighty mountain, which is rising above Stubai and Obertal valley; due to the somewhat isolated location (it is the highest peak in Stubai Alps, which is not located in the group Hochstubai or mountain range Alpeiner Berge) it is from far recognizable, and from the top there is also outstanding view. Before the development of measuring devices, because of the exposure and mightiness, which is visible to visitors of Innsbruck and surroundings, it was often considered the highest mountain of Tyrol. Even though it is almost five hundred meters lower than Wildspitze and is more than 200 meters lower than the highest peak of Stubai Alps, Zuckerhütl, Habicht still has an important role in the development of local tourism and it is among the most popular three-thousanders in the wider surrounding.
The view from the peak is outstanding. Because of the height and exposed position Habicht is the leading viewpoint on Stubai Alps, we can see almost entire Stubai Alps, and also glaciers of Ötztal Alps, Ortler group and peaks of Zillertal Alps; deeply below us there are Stubai valley, Obertal valley and river basin of Oberbergbach, and the view reaches all the way to Innsbruck and mountain range Karwendel above it. Maybe the most beautiful are views towards bold and likeable peaks of Tribulaun; the most alluring view there is from pleasant lake Alfaier, which is situated a little below the path on Habicht.
