Triglav

Description of mountain:
Triglav is 2864 meters high mountain, which is situated in the heart of Julian Alps. With the mentioned altitude Triglav is the highest mountain on the territory of Slovenia, at the same time also the highest mountain in Julian Alps. On the summit stands Aljaž turret, which was brought there in the year 1895 by Jakob Aljaž, back then the parish priest in Dovje. In Aljaž turret in case of a storm, up to 5 people can shelter. Otherwise Aljaž turret today is protected as a cultural monument and as such very important in preserving the cultural heritage.
Triglav was the first time visited 26/8/1778, when four hearted men climbed to the top whos monument stands in Bohinj. Those hearted men were Luka Korošec, Matevž Kos, Štefan Rožič and Lovrenc Willomitzer.
Otherwise from the top of Triglav a nice view opens up, which reaches all the way from Adriatic sea, over Dolomites and High Tauern to Karawanks, Kamnik Savinja Alps, Pohorje, over almost whole Slovenia to the highest peaks of Julian Alps.
