Rifugio Pederü - L'Ciaval / Kreuzkofel (path 7)

Access to starting point:
A) From Kranjska Gora over Korensko sedlo to Austria, where at the first larger crossroad, we continue left towards Podklošter / Arnoldstein and Trbiž / Tarvisio. By the end of the settlement Podklošter signs for Šmohor / Hermagor point us to the right on a regional road, on which past the mentioned settlement we drive to the end of the valley Gailtal, or more precisely to the settlement Kötschach-Mauthen, where we turn right towards the settlement Oberdrauburg. The path ahead leads us over an Alpine mountain pass Gailbergsattel (982 meters), after which we descend into the mentioned settlement. After we cross the bridge through river Drau, we continue left towards the settlement Lienz. In the main roundabout in Lienz we continue "left" in the direction of the settlement Sillian and Italy. Further, we cross the border between Austria and Italy, and we follow the main road past settlements Dobbiaco / Toblach, Villabassa / Niederdorf, Monguelfo - Tesido / Welsberg - Taisten, Brunico / Brunec. Only a little after the last-mentioned town, past which leads a bypass road, we turn left into a valley Val Badia. Further, we drive through the mentioned valley and in the settlement Longega we turn left towards the settlement San Vigilio. In San Vigilio then at the crossroad we turn left following the signs »Pederü«. After approximately 200 meters we then turn right also following the signs »Pederü«. We follow this road all the way to a large parking lot in front of the mountain hut Rifugio Pederü.
B) From Nova Gorica, we drive to Italy and drive forward on a highway towards Venice / Venezia. At town Portogruaro we leave the highway towards Venice and continue right on the highway towards Pordenone. At the next highway junction near Conegliano, we continue right towards the settlement Belluno. Near Belluno the highway ends and at the next crossroads we continue in the direction of Cortina d'Ampezzo. When we get into Cortina d'Ampezzo, we follow the signs for Alpine mountain pass Passo Falzarego. On the mountain pass Passo Falzarego (2105 meters) we turn right in the direction of the mountain pass Valparola and forward towards Val Badia. In the settlement La Villa we turn right towards the settlement Brunico. We then follow the road to the settlement Longega where we turn right towards the settlement San Vigilio. In San Vigilio then at the crossroad we turn left following the signs »Pederü«. After approximately 200 meters we then turn right also following the signs »Pederü«. We follow this road all the way to a large parking lot in front of the mountain hut Rifugio Pederü.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue to a crossing behind the mountain hut. Signposts point us slightly right on a footpath towards huts Lavarela and Fanes, left leads the path towards the mountain hut Fodara Vedla. A gently sloping path at first crosses a stream and a road, and then it starts ascending a little steeper through dwarf pines. After an initial a little steeper part path further becomes less steep, and on a shorter part it also descends a little. The path few times also for a short time joins the road, and then again runs mostly through dwarf pines on the right side of the valley.
Further, the path turns a little to the right and also increasingly beautiful views are starting to open up on surrounding peaks. Later we again join the mountain road, that runs by the stream Rü dal Plan. The slightly ascending road then brings us to a crossroad.
Left leads the road towards the mountain hut Rifugio Fanes (5 minutes), and we continue right towards the mountain hut Rifugio Lavarela. The road still leads by the stream and pastures and soon brings us to the hut.
At the mountain hut, we continue right and after a short ascent on a grassy slope, we come to a crossing. We continue right on the upper path (path number 7), which leads towards the saddle Ju dla Crusc and Forcela de Medesc, and left leads the bottom path (path number 12), which later joins the upper path and also leads towards the mentioned saddles.
From the crossing, the path is still ascending on a grassy slope towards the north and it brings us to another crossing, where the path branches off to the right towards the saddle Ju de Sant Antone.
We continue left and from the path increasingly beautiful view start opening up on surrounding peaks. The path later becomes less steep and runs on partly grassy and limestone pavement terrain. Further, the path starts again ascending a little and brings us on an indistinct saddle from which a view opens up towards the peaks Sasso delle Dieci and Sasso delle Nove. Here the path starts descending a little and then turns to the left and crosses grassy slopes on which we can often observe marmots. Next follows an ascent on narrow small valley and then descent to a crossing where from the left joins bottom path (path number 12).
We continue right through a grassy valley and we are quickly again at the crossing. Left leads the path towards the notch Forcela de Medesc and forward towards the peaks Lavarella and Piz dles Conturines, and we continue straight towards the saddle Ju dla Crusc. Further, the path is ascending on the more and more rocky terrain, and by the path, we will also notice some abysses. Such a path then leads us all the way to a saddle Ju dla Crusc where there is also a crossing.
On the saddle where a view opens up towards the west on the mountain groups Puez, Sella and Marmolada we continue right and we are ascending on the eastern less steep side of the ridge. The path is here ascending diagonally and leads us past indistinct peak Piz dl Zubr. From the path few times a view opens up on vertical western walls of the ridge and then it avoids the ridge on the right side and is ascending on the eastern slopes of the peak L'Ciaval (Kreuzkofel) where we come to a crossing.
Straight leads the path towards the summit Sasso delle Dieci (Zehnerspitze), and we continue left and after a short ascent, we soon reach the peak.
