We leave Gorenjska highway at exit Hrušica and follow the road ahead in the direction of Kranjska Gora. Just a little before the village Dovje the road which goes to Mojstrana (Vrata, Kot and Krma) branches off to the left. We follow the road ahead in the direction of valley Vrata and we drive on that road to the large parking lot near Aljažev dom.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on a macadam road which after 3 minutes of walking brings us to a crossing at Aljažev dom. We continue right in the direction of Škrlatica and Dolkova špica on the path which through a meadow leads into the forest. Further, we are ascending on at first a gentle cart track which higher changes into a little steeper footpath. The path soon brings us to a riverbed of a torrent, by which it is ascending only for a short time, and then it turns right and steeply ascends through the forest. The path is then turning towards the left, where it crosses a short avalanche slope, and then it gradually passes on the slopes below Stenar. Further, we are ascending on the mentioned slopes, which are slightly covered with dwarf pines and individual larches. Higher, the path brings us to a smaller crossing, where we continue right in the direction of Škrlatica (left Stenar on an unmarked path via Stenarska vratca).
The path ahead is ascending only for a short time, and then it flattens and it brings us to a bigger crossing, where we continue right in the direction of Škrlatica (left bivouac 2 minutes and Križ 1:30).
The path ahead crosses smaller scree and then turns sharply right. Ahead we cross a slightly exposed slope (dangerous for slipping) after which we come on pastures below Dolkova špica. The path ahead slowly starts descending, but only to a more steep part of the path. Here in the early summer, we can run into a snow field (carefully). The path then again starts to rise and we soon reach cirque Zadnji Dolek, which is located between Škrlatica and Dolkova špica.
Here we are at the crossing, where we continue right in the direction of Škrlatica, to the left leads the path towards Rdeča škrbina and forward towards Dolkova špica or Križ and mountain hut Pogačnikov dom. Further, we are ascending on the scree upwards, all the way to the entrance into the wall. Walk on the scree is quite strenuous because the scree is quite steep. And in the upper part of the scree blazes point us to the right where we enter the secured part of the path.
The path ahead runs on the western wall and in the initial part it is well secured with iron spikes and steel cables. At first, we slightly descend and we cross an exposed slope towards the south. After that, the path becomes slightly less exposed and starts ascending steeper on a slope where we occasionally get help from iron spikes.
Next follows an ascent with the help of steel cables through a groove. When we come to the top of the groove, we slightly descend and the path brings us in front of probably the hardest part of the path. Here we at first steeply ascend with the help of few stemples, and then follows traversing of a smooth wall to the right. The path on this part is very well secured with a steel cable and stemples. Further, we are then for some time ascending diagonally, and fixed safety gear are becoming a little more rare. On more difficult parts we mostly get help only from iron spikes. On this part of the path, we can also notice window in Škrlatica, which is overlooked by many mountaineers.
The path becomes slightly less demanding and it brings us to the ridge where breathtaking views open up also towards the east, where there are very well visible nearby Rokavi.
From here to the top we have for approximately half an hour of walking. The path towards the summit is slightly less demanding and mostly runs on the right eastern side of the ridge. We soon notice a cross on the summit and follows only a shorter ascent to the very panoramic summit.
