After the road sign 8.0 km we need to pay attention, because we will a little behind the bus stop and a pedestrian crossing, turn left in a settlement Gortina (turn off from the main road isn't marked). Immediately, when we leave the main road we get to the settlement Gortina, and then we drive in the direction of Muta, we turn left at the marked crossroad, where we notice signs for Bistriški jarek. The road then quickly brings us in Bistriški jarek, through which we are gently ascending. We park by the former POŠ Branik, today Glasbeni dom, that is the caption on the building, otherwise the building is used for various activities.

The path ahead brings us in Muta, where on a crossroads we follow priority road, from a little bigger crossroad we go left, so that we are further driving towards Gortina. A little after the settlement Muta ends, from marked crossroad we drive right in the direction of Bistriški jarek. The road then quickly brings us in Bistriški jarek, through which we are gently ascending. Path description:
From the marked parking lot, we continue on the asphalt road which behind the sports field quickly brings us to a marked crossing by the ecological chapel.
We continue left towards Pernice (right Sedelnik waterfall and St. Jernej), from the road we go immediately a little more left on a cart track. On the cart track, we ascend to the near farm, where we go behind the house left on a marked cart track. Cart track is at first ascending diagonally towards the left and then turns right, and after the turn we leave it and we continue slightly right on a marked footpath which starts steeply ascending through the forest. Higher, we also cross an older cart track, after a further shorter ascent we join a little wider cart track, on which we also come out of the forest. The path ahead leads us past the hunting observatory, and then we cross a wider macadam road and we continue on the road which leads to the near homestead Abram. Above the homestead, we again continue on a cart track, and the path brings us to nicely settled chapel, above which the path for some time becomes a little steeper. The path ahead leads us by the route of a power line, and higher we once again cross a wider road. Further, the path leads us also past the homestead Hribernik, above which the path gradually passes into the forest. Next follows few minutes of ascent through the forest and then we get to pastures below the church of St. Simon and Judah Tadej, where the footpath for some time vanishes. We continue with increasingly beautiful views to the church, where we go left and past NOB monument we walk to the former mountain hut Planinsko zavetišče pri Knezu, where there is an inscription box.
From the crossing by the former mountain hut we continue right in the direction of Košenjak and St. Urban and at first ascending through the forest and then the path flattens, and the forest is for some time changed by partly grassy terrain. A little further, we reach the macadam road which we follow right towards Košenjak, on the nearby crossroad we continue on a slightly left upper road (slightly right farm Zgornji Čiček). A short time we still continue on the road, and then signs for Košenjak point us slightly left on a grassy cart track, on which we continue an ascent. Higher, we go from the mentioned cart track left, few minutes ahead we cross also a rough road. Next follows few minutes of a diagonal ascent, and then we reach the ridge of Kozji vrh, where there is a marked crossing.
From the crossing, we go right (left Kozji vrh less than 1 minute) and we continue on the border ridge, on which we are lightly descending. After a good 10 minutes we step out of the forest, where in front of us we already notice the church of St. Urban, to which we have only a short walk.
We continue to a wooden cross, where signs for Košenjak point us slightly right, on the path which passes into the forest. We continue by the border ridge, at first without large changes in altitude, behind the weather station, which is located on the Slovenian side, follows a shorter descent. After the descent, we again for some time continue without large changes in altitude, then the path leads us past decaying bivouac, which is located on the Austrian side of the border. Further, we are for quite some time gently to occasionally moderately ascending, and then we get to a marked crossing, where from the left joins the path from the farm Lonhtar.
We continue straight towards Košenjak, and further we are still ascending on and by the national border, and when the forest gets even thinner from the left joins the path which leads past Dom na Košenjaku.
We continue straight and after a minute of additional walking, we get to the top of Košenjak.
