Access to starting point:
At first, we drive to Kranjska Gora, and then we continue driving towards Rateče. At the crossroad, where a road towards Rateče branches off to the right, straight the road continues towards Italy, we turn left in the direction of Planica. After a short ascent, we get to ski jumping hills in Planica, where there are some large parking lots.
Since the road towards Dom v Tamarju is closed for public traffic we have to park already in Planica, this extends the path for approximately 45 minutes.
Path description:
First, we walk to Dom v Tamarju, and from there we continue on a marked mountain path in the direction of Jalovec and Ponce (left Slemenova špica). The path ahead leads us through the forest, which quickly brings us to the next crossing, where the path on Ponce branches off to the right. We continue in the direction of Jalovec and we continue the ascent on the path which is for a short time still ascending gently through the forest. When we come out of the forest at first for some time we are ascending on extensive partly already overgrown gravel terrain, and then we gradually get on the scree, which continues towards Jalovec couloir. On the scree we ascend to a marked crossing, where we continue left (right Kotovo sedlo and Jalovec past the bivouac below Kotovo sedlo) in the direction of Jalovška škrbina. The further path is still ascending on the scree, and then it brings us to the next crossing, where we again continue on the left path (right saddle Kotovo sedlo).
We continue on the right side of bottom edge of couloir, which a little higher with the help of fixed safety gear we cross. On the other side (left, looking from bottom to top) of couloir we get to the entry of a climbing part of the path. The path in a wall turns left and with the help of bent iron spikes starts ascending steeply on the northern to northwestern walls of Šite (Šite are 2305 meters high peak above the notch Jalovška škrbina). Next follows few more very exposed crossings, through which we get help from steel cables. Higher, the path flattens and brings us on notch Jalovška škrbina, from where a nice view opens up towards Primorska's mountains.
From the notch follows a short descent on the scree and we join the path from Trenta and Vršič. From here we short time continue diagonally towards the right and we get to a sign, which warns, that path further is marked as a very demanding climbing path.
The path ahead in a gentle ascent crosses steep and exposed slopes, and then turns right and starts ascending on a wall almost straight upwards. During the ascent on a wall of Goličica we get help from only few rare fixed safety gear. Higher, the steepness decreases and the path brings us on the scree on and by which we are then ascending. The increasingly panoramic path then brings us to the spot, where a view opens up through Jalovec couloir into a valley Tamar.
We continue on a little less steep path over slopes named Jezerce. Ahead follows a short descent and the path brings us to the spot, where from the left joins the path from the cottage Zavetišče pod Špičkom. The path then again steeply ascends and with some fixed safety gear, on in parts quite exposed path brings us on the main ridge of Jalovec. Further, we are ascending on narrow and occasionally very exposed ridge, on the path which higher brings us to the spot, where from the left joins the path from the saddle Kotovo sedlo. We continue straight and panoramic ridge path quickly brings us to the summit.
