Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Koper, we take the Razdrto exit, then continue driving on the old road towards Nova Gorica. After Razdrto, the road starts to descend more steeply, and we follow it to the intersection, where the road to Nanos branches off to the right. We turn onto the mentioned road, and after the first sharp right turn, we park in a suitable spot next to the following small intersection.
B) From the expressway Nova Gorica - Razdrto, we take the Vipava exit, then continue driving on the old road towards Razdrto, but we drive along it for only a few kilometers, after which the signs for Nanos direct us sharply left onto an ascending road. We turn onto the mentioned road, and after the first sharp right turn, we park in a suitable spot next to the following small intersection.
Path description:
From the starting point, we head onto a side road, along which we notice signs for Nanos and the hunting cottage. We walk a few meters along the mentioned road, then the blazes direct us right onto a marked footpath that starts ascending through the forest. A little higher, we cross the asphalt road; when we step onto it a second time, we continue along it across the expressway. On the other side of the expressway, which we cross right at the beginning of the tunnel, the road up which we are ascending gradually turns right. We walk along the asphalt to the end of the next hairpin turn, from there we head right onto a marked path that higher returns to the road.
When we step onto the road again, we only cross it (right further along the road - path over Brižnik) and continue ascending through the low forest. Higher up, the path brings us to an intermittent spring, beside which there is a small grapevine. From the grapevine, we continue moderately ascending for a short while, then we reach the already several times mentioned asphalt road, which we follow to the left. With occasional views of the Vipava hills and surroundings, the road brings us to the troughs and a sharp right turn, in the middle of which the path from Vipava and another path from Podnanos join from the left.
Here we continue right and along the road to the next turn, then the blazes direct us right onto a footpath, along which we ascend somewhat more steeply. The well-marked path higher returns to the road and leaves it again after a few minutes, a little higher it crosses it once more. The path ahead leads us past a large chapel, which is already visible from afar. A little above the chapel, we arrive at a marked junction, where we continue right uphill in the direction of Vojkova koča past Strmec (left hunting cottage Vojkovo, right downhill Lozice).
The path ahead becomes quite steep and substantially less trodden, but not particularly demanding in terms of orientation. Higher up, the path brings us out of the forest and flattens out completely after the slope break. Here we continue straight along a barely noticeable little path, along which in 2 minutes of further walking we join the well-trodden and marked path hunting cottage Vojkovo - Vojkova koča na Nanosu.
When we reach the mentioned path, we follow it to the right (left hunting cottage 10 minutes), which then leads us further across grassy slopes that are occasionally overgrown with bushes and individual pines. The easy and barely ascending path then briefly joins the road but leaves it after just a few steps. The path then withdraws a little further to the right from the road and begins to ascend moderately across increasingly panoramic slopes of Nanos. Here an unmarked path joins us from the right, which had branched off to the right a little lower. The path ahead becomes a little steeper and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to the church of St. Jerome, already visible from afar.
From the church, we continue slightly right along the path, to which a little higher a gentle path from Razdrto joins from the right. We continue in the direction of Vojkova koča along the path, which a few steps further brings us to a less noticeable junction, where an unmarked path to Grmada branches off to the left. We continue slightly right along the marked path, which then ascends parallel to the road for quite some time. The path ahead moves a little further to the right away from the road and passes onto the panoramic northwestern edge of Nanos. Here the so-called Janezova pot joins almost unnoticeably from the right, but we continue straight along the wide path that leads us towards the transmitters on Nanos. Just a little before the transmitters, the path turns left, descends into a belt of forest, and then past the monument to Janko Premrl Vojko brings us to Vojkova koča na Nanosu.
