Laško - Mali Grintovec (via Bašeljski vrh)

Access to starting point:
A) From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Kranj - east, and then we continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we get to Preddvor we leave the main road and we continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement, from there we follow the signs for settlement Bašelj. When we get to Bašelj at first at the beginning of the left turn in the direction of straight continues narrower road which leads to the parking lot at log cabin TD Bašelj (in descriptions starting point Bašelj), and from the mentioned crossroad we continue on the main road a good 100 meters to the next crossroad, where we continue right on the road towards Gamsov raj and hamlet Laško. Only about 50 meters ahead we continue on the left road which gradually starts moderately ascending. At the hamlet Laško we again continue left and then the asphalt ends and we continue driving on a steep macadam road which leads us past a turn-off of the path (cart track) towards the church of St. Lovrenc and hut Dom na Lovrencu. From the mentioned turn off we drive a little further, to the end of the road or smaller parking lot few 10 meters before.
B) From highway Jesenice - Ljubljana we go to the exit Kranj - zahod and at the first crossroad, we continue left. Further, we drive through the underpass below the highway, and then we get to a roundabout, from where we continue driving in the direction of Golnik. The path ahead leads us through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju, and at the end of the settlement, we continue right in the direction of the settlement Srakovlje. Next follows driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela, Zgornja Bela (in Zgornja Bela we join the road from Preddvor) to Bašelj, where the main road makes long left turn, where in the direction of straight continues narrower road which leads to the parking lot at log cabin TD Bašelj (in descriptions starting point Bašelj), and from the mentioned crossroad we continue on the main road a good 100 meters to the next crossroad, where we continue right on the road towards Gamsov raj and hamlet Laško. Path description:
At the end of the road, we go on the left cart track in the direction of Kališče and Storžič. Cart track is moderately ascending and after ten minutes of walking, it brings us to a crossing. We continue on the left cart track which after few meters vanishes. The path here leaves smaller valley by which was ascending and steeply ascends to the left direction. After this shorter steep ascent steepness decreases and the path brings us to partisan hospital Košuta. Behind the hospital path crosses two successive torrents and then again steeply ascends. The path which all the time runs through the forest brings us on a side ridge of Kališče, where joins the unmarked path from Bašelj. Forest then becomes thinner and occasionally some nice view opens up towards Storžič. After that, the path turns a little right again in the forest. Suddenly in front of us, we notice cottage, which is situated on the mountain pasture below Kališče. Only few meters ahead joins the path from the village Mače. Further, the path is ascending for approximately 15 more minutes through the forest. After that, the path makes a sharp left turn and in front of us, we notice a mountain hut Dom na Kališču to which we only have few steps.
From the hut, we continue on a wide ridge path in the direction of Storžič and Bašeljski vrh. Already after few minutes of additional walking, the path on Bašeljski vrh branches off to the right. We go on this path, which through dwarf pines in a moderate ascent brings us on Bašeljski vrh. The last meters below the summit are in snow dangerous for slipping.
From the top, we descend towards the saddle Mačensko sedlo. This part is a little more demanding, but snowless path doesn't represent any greater danger. The path which is descending from the peak in larger part runs on the ridge, which is in parts slightly exposed. From the saddle Mačensko sedlo ahead the path again starts ascending. Ascent runs on a grassy slope, which is mostly vegetated with dwarf pines. Only few steps below the summit we come to a crossing, where we go left (right Srenji vrh and Dolga njiva) and without problems we reach the panoramic peak.
Laško - Kališče 2:00, Kališče - Bašeljski vrh 45 minutes, Bašeljski vrh - Mali Grintovec 45 minutes.
