Access to starting point:
A) From Cerknica or Nova vas na Blokah at first we drive to Bloška Polica, from there we continue driving in the direction of Lož and Babno Polje. In the settlement Pudob we turn right in the direction of Snežnik, Ilirska Bistrica, Knežak and nearby settlement Kozarišče. In Kozarišče we continue slightly left in the direction of Snežnik and also in the next crossroads, we follow the road in the direction of Snežnik. When Kozarišče ends, ends also an asphalt, and we immediately after the bridge through Mali Obrh we continue left in the direction of Mašun and Knežak. Next follows relatively long drive on a macadam road which we follow approximately 11 km or to Leskova dolina, where we also park on one of the parking lots by the road.
B) We drive into Pivka, from there we continue driving towards Knežak. In Knežak at the marked crossroad we continue left in the direction of Mašun and settlement Bač and Koritnice. A little further, we go right in the direction of Mašun and Koritnice (straight Bač). After Koritnice the road starts considerably ascending, and after 18 km from the main crossroad in Knežak brings us to Mašun, from there we continue driving right in the direction of Sviščaki. After approximately 2 km of the macadam road from Mašun we get to a crossroad, where we continue on the left bottom road (right road leads towards Sviščaki), on which we drive for approximately 7 km, or to Leskova dolina, where we park on an appropriate place by the road.
C) First, we drive to Ilirska Bistrica, and then we continue driving towards Sviščaki (turn off is in the middle of Ilirska Bistrica and is marked, maybe it is a little poorly noticeable). At first, we are ascending on an asphalt road, and then after a little less than 12 km of ascent an asphalt is changed to a macadam. Next follows for approximately 7 km of the macadam, and then we get to a crossroad right next to a mountain hut Planinski dom na Sviščakih, where we continue straight towards the mountain hut. From the mountain hut, we continue driving towards Mašun, where after additional 10 km of the macadam we get to a crossroad, where we continue sharply right towards Leskova dolina (straight Mašun 2 km). From the crossroad, we drive for approximately 7 km, or to Leskova dolina, where we park on an appropriate place by the road.
Path description:
By the road which brings us to Leskova dolina we notice mountain signposts for Snežnik, which point us on a footpath which through a lane of a forest quickly brings us to a forest road which leads to Lepi Dol. The mentioned road, we only cross, and we continue the ascent on a marked path, which quickly passes into a dense forest. Ahead path continues on a cart track which has some marked shortcuts, and then we step on a macadam road which we follow to the left.
We continue the ascent on the mentioned macadam road, and after approximately 20 minutes of additional walking brings us to a marked crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of Snežnik and Gašperjev hrib. From the crossroad ahead, the road starts ascending a little steeper, and higher it brings us to the starting point of the path Gašperjev hrib - Snežnik. At the mentioned starting point we leave the road and we continue the ascent on a marked footpath in the direction of Snežnik.
The path ahead at first steeply ascends on a cart track, and then it flattens and after few minutes of additional walking changes into a pleasant footpath which then leads us on and by an indistinct ridge. The path ahead soon brings us to the vantage point on Snežnik, and it then slightly descends and brings us into a lane of a dense forest, where it is further ascending diagonally. Higher, the path brings us on a larger meadow, from which a nice view opens up on surrounding hills. Ahead we for some time continue on a panoramic grassy slope, and then the path returns into the forest, where it starts ascending steeply. Out of the forest we soon pass into dwarf pines, through which we continue the ascent on the more and more panoramic slope. Next follows a short descent and from the left joins less visited path from Grčovec.
We continue in the direction of Snežnik and we continue the ascent on a marked path, which from dwarf pines brings us on unvegetated upper slopes of Snežnik. This increasingly panoramic path, we then follow all the way to the peak, and we reach it after few minutes of additional walking.
