From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Ljubelj and follow the road ahead to the border crossing. Only few meters before the border crossing signs for Zelenica point us to the left and after few 10 meters of additional driving the road brings us on a parking lot below the ski center Zelenica.
Path description:
At the end of the large macadam parking lot we will notice wooden mountain sign with the caption mountain pasture Preval, which points us in the forest on a footpath which quickly brings us to the foot of the scree. Here we come on a smaller crossing, where we will on rock notice a sign Prevala and Roblekov dom left. A gently sloping path then from scree quickly moves into a dense forest, which is exposed to falling stones. A wide path then passes out of the forest on a steep and well-secured slopes. Panoramic path, then brings us to Born's tunnel, where we will use a lamp. At the crossing through the tunnel be careful because of larger number of puddles and occasionally low ceiling. On the other side of the tunnel for some time we walk on the path which is nicely routed on the east walls of Begunjščica, and then we pass on the scree, which we only cross. Next follows a shorter crossing of steep forest slopes, and then the path starts slightly ascending on a less steep slope. Still a wide path, which is only moderately ascending, higher joins the marked path from Podljubelj.
Here we continue right and we follow a wide path to the mountain pasture Preval-a, which we reach after few minutes of additional walking.
From a cross on Prevala we continue towards the north on a marked footpath in the direction of Begunjščica over Kalvarija (left Roblekov dom over Roža, right Ljubelj and Podljubelj). The path ahead at first ascends on a panoramic grassy slope, and then passes into the forest through which it starts ascending steeper. Higher, the forest starts to get thinner, and the path becomes even a little steeper. Next follows a quite steep ascent, which at first runs through some lanes of dwarf pines, and higher over steep grassy slopes, which are mainly in wet dangerous for slipping. Further, we cross a slightly exposed gully, where there is a smaller memorial, and the path is then for few minutes ascending on a steep grassy slope. When a little higher slope flattens a little, marked path turns to the left and crosses slopes towards the left. Only few minutes ahead we get to a smaller valley, where the slope flattens even more. Mentioned small valley we only cross (slightly right from a small valley we can on easier pathless terrain in 15 minutes ascend on Begunjska Vrtača), and then in few minutes we ascend on the main ridge of Begunjščica. When we step on a ridge nice view opens up also towards the north, and we continue on a gently sloping path which continues on a little narrower ridge. Next follows a short descent to a small saddle, where from the right side joins "path" through the gully Šentanski plaz. Here ridge of Begunjščica widens, and an increasingly panoramic path we follow to the secondary peak of Veliki vrh. Next follows one more very short descent, after that without any bigger problems in few minutes we ascend on the highest peak of Begunjščica.
Ljubelj - Preval 1:30, Preval - Begunjščica 2:00. The path to the mountain pasture Preval is unmarked, further is well marked.
