Mače - Cjanovca (over Kozjek and on SE ridge)

Access to starting point:
A) From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Kranj - east, and then we continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we get to Preddvor we leave the main road and we continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement, from there we follow the signs for Mače. When we get to Mače, at the marked crossroad we continue right (left Bašelj, straight church of St. Miklavž (church isn't accessible with a car)) and on a narrow road we drive above the village, where there is a larger marked parking lot.
B) From highway Jesenice - Ljubljana we go to the exit Kranj - zahod and at the first crossroad, we continue left. Further, we drive through the underpass below the highway, and then we get to a roundabout, from where we continue driving in the direction of Golnik. The path ahead leads us through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju, and at the end of the settlement, we continue right in the direction of the settlement Srakovlje. Next follows driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela to Zgornja Bela, where we continue right towards Preddvor. In Preddvor we notice signs for Mače, which point us to the left past the primary school on a road which ascends to Mače. When we get to Mače, at the marked crossroad we continue right (left Bašelj, straight church of St. Miklavž (church isn't accessible with a car)) and on a narrow road we drive above the village, where there is a larger marked parking lot.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we return to the road, from which we turned on a parking lot and we continue the ascent there in the direction of Kališče. At first, we walk through the forest, the road few minutes higher gets closer to the stream Suha, which a little further 2 times also crosses. After approximately 20 minutes we get to a marked crossing, where normal path towards Kališče continues left, and we continue right in the direction of Srednji vrh, Kališče over Kozjek and Zavetišče v Hudičevem borštu over Kozjek. The worse road little ahead brings us to a cargo cableway, which runs towards the mountain hut Dom na Kališču.
Ascent ahead is because of labyrinth of cart tracks, orientationally a little harder, but if we carefully follow the blazes, we can't miss. Higher, the cart track changes into a steep footpath, and after a time it brings us on the ridge of Kozjek. Here the path flattens and it turns left, where then after few minutes of additional walking brings us to a marked crossing.
Here the path on Kališče branches off to the left, and we continue on the right path. After that we cross a gully and already after few 10 strides of additional walking, we come to the next crossing, where we continue straight (left Dolga njiva, Cjanovca and Srednji vrh) in the direction of Hudičev boršt. Next follows few minutes of crossing, which in the last part runs on a grassy slope, and then by the edge of Hudičev boršt we join a little shorter path Mačenska pot.
We continue past a source and then after a minute or two of additional walking, we get to the cottage Zavetišče v Hudičevem borštu.
From the cottage, we continue towards the east, where we quickly leave Hudičev boršt and we get to the spot, where we step out of the forest. On initial part, where we step out of the forest, in a moderate descent we get help from a steel cable, which continues few meters of crossing through relatively steep slope. The path continues on quite steep grassy slope of Zaplata, which is in the winter time exposed to avalanches. A crossing of a grassy slope, which is mainly in wet on some spots dangerous for slipping, and otherwise technically undemanding, after approximately 15 minutes ends and the path brings us into the forest. Next follows for approximately 15 minutes of crossing through the forest and then we get to a marked crossing, where we continue left in the direction of Srednji vrh and Cjanovca (slightly right Javorov vrh, right St. Jakob and Potoška gora).
We continue on the path which starts ascending steeper on and by east ridge of Cjanovca. Higher, the path brings us out of the forest on slopes covered with dwarf pines, and we continue on steeper and in parts very panoramic path. The path, from which beautiful views are opening up on Kočna, Grintovec, Kalški greben and Gorenjska, is slowly turning slightly towards the left. This more and more panoramic and relatively steep path, we then follow all the way to the top of Cjanovca, on which stands bench and smaller cairn.
