Access to starting point:
Via the border crossings Rateče or Predel we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio, then we continue driving on the old road towards Videm / Udine. We follow this road to the place Cucco. We follow the main road to the turn-off for the place Ombrico. Here we leave the main road and turn left on a narrower road, which at first runs slightly downhill. The road over a bridge crosses the wide riverbed of the river Fiuma Fella, then turns right and joins the cycling path. Further on, we drive on a narrow road, which is at the same time also a cycling path. We follow this road to a small bridge after which we come to a junction. We turn left on an ascending road which leads us in the direction towards the motorway viaduct. We park in a suitable place by the road near the viaduct.
Path description:
We continue along the road to the other side of the viaduct where there is a junction. We go straight on the cart track beside which there is a sign prohibiting further driving. The cart track starts to ascend and in the initial part we have quite a few nice views towards the north where we can see a few peaks above the Kanal Valley. After a few turns the cart track brings us into the forest through which we then ascend for quite some time in hairpins. Higher up the cart track brings us to more eastern slopes where we can hear the stream Rio Granuda Grande deep below us. Here we occasionally get views towards Dve špici. We then follow the cart track all the way to the mountain pasture Malga Granuda. When we arrive at the mountain pasture we ascend slightly more, at the right bend we come to a junction where we also join the marked path.
Here we leave the cart track and go left on the footpath towards Dve špici. From the junction we first walk briefly through a belt of deciduous forest, then the path moves onto steeper slopes covered with dwarf pines and larches. The relatively steep path then brings us to a marked junction.
We continue left towards Dve špici (Due Pizzi), from the right a somewhat more demanding path joins via the notch Forcella Cuel Tarond.
From the junction the path becomes even steeper, so during the ascent we occasionally have to help ourselves with our hands. Later the steepness eases and the path brings us to the scree slopes below the precipitous ridge of the peak Monte Gosadon. Here the path turns left and crosses the aforementioned scree. On the other side of the scree the path ascends steeply again, then follows the crossing of a shorter gully where some caution is needed due to the sand on the path. Further on the slope becomes vegetated again with dwarf pines and ascent follows towards the saddle between the peaks Cima Alta (Dve špici) and Monte Gosadon. A little below the saddle the path brings us to a junction.
Straight ahead the path leads towards Dve špici, we turn right onto a narrow path towards the summit Monte Gosadon. The path from the junction to the summit is marked with red dots and first turns right and then runs for some time through dwarf pines. When we reach a smaller notch from which some views open towards Viš and Montaž, we continue right steeply upwards. The ascent is very steep in this section so some caution is needed. The steepness then eases somewhat and the path leads us again beside dwarf pines. Higher the path turns left and the dwarf pines along the path become sparser. Here the path brings us onto steeper slopes again where more caution is needed. After crossing the steep slope, the path from the Dunje valley joins from the left.
At the junction we continue right and only a short ascent follows along a panoramic slope past some military ruins to the summit.
