Access to starting point:
From the border we continue on the highway towards Villese, from there in the direction of Portogruaro, where we turn on the highway towards Conegliano, and then towards Ponte Nelle Alpi. There we leave the highway and we follow signposts towards Belluno and Agordo. Past Agordo we follow the road to Cencenighe Agordino, where in the center of the village we turn left, where signs point us towards Falcade and Passo San Pellegrino. About a kilometer before the top of the mountain pass, we notice on the left side a mighty building of the cable car Col Margherita, where we park on a giant parking lot.
Path description:
From the parking lot at the bottom station of the cableway Col Margherita, we continue on the left side past the building of the cableway on a transport road. The path is marked with signs, after approximately 2 hours we come on a slope above the ski slope San Pellegrino, from where a view opens up on lake Cavia and mountain range San Martino. We continue right, past the chairlift, and we can shorten the path also directly on the route of the ski slope. On the top besides the upper building of the cableway there is also an inn, past it we ascend about 15 more minutes of walking to the top of Col Margherita, where there is a viewpoint, there are also remains from the first world war.
From here we continue on the ridge towards the mountain Cima Juribrutto, which is rising above the mountain pass San Pellegrino. The path is wide, in parts, it is also descending a little. Then it narrows a little, and soon we are at the turn-off right upwards, for Cima Juribrutto, which starts steeply ascending on partly crumbly stones. When we are past the steep part, we come to the top of the ridge, where in front of us there are hundreds of meters of military trenches and rocky walls of former military shacks, and the entire mountain has typical green-brown color. Past the trenches we are ascending on the ridge and we soon reach the top of the mountain, from where views open up to mountain pass far below, and in nice weather we can also see Marmolada.
For return we can choose the western path, which is in parts marked with blazes, but it is better to follow cairns, if we don't want to get lost. We can descend towards the mountain pass Juribrutto, from where the marked path goes back into the valley towards the mountain pass San Pellegrino, but I recommend, that you make a circular path also to the lake Juribrutto, we will certainly not regret it.
