In Kobarid you leave the main road and go towards Drežnica. Drive on the main road through Drežnica towards Drežniške Ravne and at the end of this village turn right in the direction Pl. Zaprikraj. After few turns you will come to plain, where there stands a trough for livestock and there is also large space for parking. You can park here and on foot go to Pl. Zaprikraj, will take a good hour. I continued with a car all the way to Pl. Zaprikraj. On some parts the road is in quite bad condition, but if you have normal car, you will slowly come on Pl. Zaprikraj. At the entrance on Pl. Zaprikraj you will run into iron door, which mark border of the pasture. Before door is large parking lot and there is also a sign for Triglav national park. Park here.
Path description:
You step through the door of the pasture and immediately after door you go right on a mule track (path, which Italian army during the 1st world war carve into a hill) and then zig-zag direct uphill. (we started the hike on the mountain dairy on Planina Zaprikraj, which is 10 minutes from the parking lot) So after one hour and a half of walking uphill we came to a saddle Vrata, from where the path completely changed. The path goes directly below the top of the ridge and on a narrow footpath which was made by Italian army, once even through shorter tunnel. Visible on photos. If you have a lamp, you can on the path view also some caverns.
At the end of the ridge path descends a little and then we come to path, which comes from the direction lake Krnsko jezero. From there path starts again ascending. In front of you, you all the time see the peak, but when you get there you find out, that peak is approx 15 minutes away (go and you will see, what I am writing). The path from the lake Krnsko jezero to the summit Krn was incredibly crowded, peak and cottage Gomiščkovo zavetišče as well. To the summit we came after a total 3 hours and 40 minutes (from the mountain dairy on Pl. Zaprikraj).
From the top, we went also to the mountain hut Gomiškovo zavetišče, which is directly below the summit. Bear and return back on Zaprikraj. To return from the cottage to mountain dairy we needed exactly 3 hours. Because we are among faster mountaineers, I wrote in the description of this path, that you need 7 hours 30 minutes. Don't forget to take water with you, because during the hike you won't find it. Go in the morning, when the most steep part of the path is still in the shade (at least at 9am from the starting point).
Locals on Pl. Zaprikraj told me, that there is a lot more remains of the 1st world war on second part of the ridge; from the saddle Vrata towards the north.
