Access to starting point:
From Trbiž / Tarvisio we go on the highway towards Videm / Udine. We leave the highway at exit for Tolmezzo. Further, we follow the signs for Austria and mountain pass Passo di Croce Carnico / Plöckenpass. On Italian side of the mountain pass, we park on a large parking lot.
Path description:
At the parking lot, we go on a narrow road following the signs Rifuggio Marinelli (path 146). Already after few ten meters, we come to a crossroad where we go right on a military mule track on which we are then ascending through a thin forest and meadows below the steep slopes of the mountain Creta di Collinetta (2238m). Military mule track passes into a footpath and quickly we also come to the crossroad, where the path to the mentioned mountain branches off to the right.
We continue on the left path, which in a gentle ascent crosses grassy slopes and it brings us on a smaller plain. Here from the left joins an unmarked path from the mountain pasture Collinetta di Sotto, and only a little after that, we come to a marked crossing where the path on Cresta Verde (2150 meters) branches off to the right. We continue on the path 146 towards the mountain hut Marinelli to which we have a little less than two hours. Here the path becomes a little steeper and is ascending through slightly overgrown bushes and high grass. When we come from the bushes path becomes more gentle and the path branches off to the right on Creta di Collina (2659 meters).
Here while crossing quite steep slopes, we start descending and there are also some fixed safety gear for help. Next follows a little more demanding descent through the natural window and crossing of the steep slopes covered with nettles, which brings us to a crossroad.
The right path runs on Cima di Mezzo (2713 meters), and we continue on the left path towards the mountain hut. The path again starts ascending through the meadows and a little before the mountain hut we join the cart track (path 148). Here we will by the path also notice a lake Laghetto di Plotta. Cart track then soon ends and to the mountain hut follows only few minutes of ascent.
At the mountain hut, we go towards the northwest following the signs Monte Coglians and we start ascending on a little steeper grassy slopes. The path quickly brings us to an unmarked crossing, where the path Sentiero Spinotti branches off to the left towards the mountain hut Lambertenghi – Romanin. Our path here turns to the right and it ascends to the grassy ridge. Further, the path runs again slightly left from the ridge and joins it again below the summit Pic Chiadin. The summit is located just few meters from the path.
Immediately behind the mentioned peak path slightly descends and on a short little exposed ridge brings us in entirely new world. Slopes covered with grass are instantly replaced by bare rock. Here the path also brings us to a marked crossing.
Left leads the path towards the summit Monte Coglians, and we go right towards the summit Cima di Mezzo. From the crossing, the path turns to the right and is for some time ascending on a grassy slope upwards. After that, the path turns slightly to the left and it brings us on the east slopes of the mountain. The path here soon becomes a little less steep and is mostly slightly ascending on a slope covered with rocks and boulders towards the north. The footpath on this part mostly isn't visible so we have to pay attention to blazes. Such a path runs all the way to the notch on the eastern side of the peak Cima di Mezzo where from the right side joins the marked path which runs by the ridge below the summit Creta Monumentz. To notch on which there are Tibetian prayer flags is possible also access from the north side on very demanding pathless terrain from cirque Vallone della Chianevate. In the last part of the mentioned access there are also some steel cables.
On the notch, we continue sharply to the left and we start ascending steeper on a rocky slope. The path is then for quite some time quite steeply ascending and brings us on the southern slopes of the mountain. Here the path turns to the right and it ascends on a quite steep slope on which we reach the secondary peak.
From the secondary peak from which opens up also a view on the main peak we at first slightly descend after that follows only the last undemanding ascent to a panoramic summit.
