Podgrad - Lazarjev vrh

Access to starting point:
From the east Ljubljana bypass highway, we go to the exit Ljubljana - east and we continue driving on the road Zaloška cesta in the direction of Zalog. Further, we drive on the main road towards Podgrad. In the settlement Podgrad we turn right through the underpass under the railway track and then we continue on a relatively narrow road in the direction towards Besnica and Janče. Only a little before the end of the settlement Podgrad we park on a parking lot on the left side of the road. In case if the parking lot is occupied, we can here turn right on a cart track by the information board and over a small wooden bridge cross the stream. And there is also some space for parking.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we first cross the main road and past the information board which describes the path Ostrovrharjeva pot we go on a cart track and through a small wooden bridge we cross the stream Besnica. The cart track turns to the left and it brings us to a crossroad.
Sharply right on a cart track or a macadam road leads the path Ostrovrharjeva pot by which there is also a signpost, slightly to the right also a shortcut branches off, which higher joins the path Ostrovrharjeva pot, and we continue straight on a gentle cart track. Gentle cart track then brings us to a grassy clearing on which we will also notice a hunting observatory. We still continue on a cart track which we can at this spot due to frequent mud also bypass on a footpath which runs by the edge of the clearing. After the clearing, the path brings us to a crossing.
Straight on a cart track leads a path towards old castle Osterberg, and we continue left on a narrower footpath where also a signpost for path Ostrovrharjeva pot points us to. From the crossing, the path at first slightly descends and then over a small wooden bridge crosses the stream Besnica. Here we are again at the crossing. To the right by the stream leads the path through the valley of the stream Besnica and forward towards the millstone quarry, and we follow the signs for path Ostrovrharjeva pot and we cross the asphalt road.
Here we start ascending a little steeper and the path soon brings us to a crossing. We continue right, and further we are then ascending diagonally towards the southeast. The path here runs through the forest, and occasionally through the trees still a view opens up a little on surrounding hills above the valley of the stream Besnica. Such a path then brings us to a crossing where we first go left to the ridge on which runs a cart track.
On the ridge, we then continue left on a cart track where also a sign of the path Ostrovrharjeva pot points us to. To the right leads the path towards Grmadnik and forward towards Janče. The path here starts slightly descending and through trees also some view opens up the eastern side of the ridge. We still continue on a wide path on the ridge and we soon get to benches and information board, which describes attractions on the path Ostrovrharjeva pot.
A little after the information board we come to a crossing where the path towards the summit Murjevka branches off to the left, and we continue right on a wide path and in a gentle descent on the eastern side bypass the peak of Murjevka. To the left then a narrow footpath branches off which leads on the mentioned peak from the northern side, and we still continue on a wide path. The path then starts again ascending and it brings us to a little bigger crossing where on the left side there is also a bench.
Slightly left downwards leads a wide path towards the tourist farm Pri Lazarju, and we continue on the right cart track which ascends a little steeper. After a short ascent, the path brings us on a larger clearing on which runs a power line. Here also a nice view opens up towards Ljubljana and on surrounding hills. And by the path there is also a bench. After crossing the clearing, the cart track passes into a narrow footpath and follows the last ascent through the forest to the top. Due to the forest from the very peak there isn't much of a view.
We can descend on the ascent route or past the tourist farm Pri Lazarju and then through the settlement Podgrad back to the starting point.
