Polja - Dreiländereck Hütte (via Petelinjek)

Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Kranjska Gora, then continue driving towards Rateče. In Podkoren we turn right towards the Korensko sedlo pass. Above Podkoren the road turns sharply left, then for some time crosses the slopes to the left. About 50 meters before the 1 km road sign, a forest road branches off to the left, onto which we turn and park in a suitable spot beside the road.
B) Through the Predel border crossing we drive to Italy, then continue driving towards Trbiž / Tarvisio and further to Rateče. In Rateče we continue straight, then in Podkoren we turn left towards Austria. Above Podkoren the road turns sharply left, then for some time crosses the slopes to the left. About 50 meters before the 1 km road sign, a forest road branches off to the left, onto which we turn and park in a suitable spot beside the road.

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on the forest road which curves semicircularly to the left and temporarily leads past the pasture. The road, which after the bend starts to ascend gently to moderately, soon crosses the Kališnik stream, then slowly turns more and more to the right. Higher, we arrive at the panoramic section, from which a nice view opens towards Kranjska Gora and part of the Julian Alps. Next follows crossing of a pasture fence, immediately after the mentioned crossing we continue right on the partly overgrown cart track which ascends transversely above the road. For a few minutes we ascend the overgrown cart track, then the cart track transitions into dense forest, where it is easier to pass. Higher, in the part where the cart track gets lost in the grass, we continue right and in a few steps join the path leading from Rateče.
Further on, we ascend through the area named Lomiči, where on several grassy spots we notice old, mostly already quite worn-out hayracks. During the ascent on the mentioned part, looking back several times opens a nice view on the Julian Alps, and we higher reach the macadam road, which we follow to the left (the right branch of the road soon ends). Along the road we ascend for a few minutes, then arrive at a junction, where we continue slightly right (left Peč and Rateče, sharply right Kališje) on the road which then gently ascends. A little further the forest temporarily ends, where the path leads past the hunting observation post. When we have walked a few minutes on the eastern slopes of the Petelinjek ridge, a cart track branches off sharply to the left, beside which usually stands a small cairn.
We continue on the mentioned cart track (the road which we leave ends somewhat further at the state border) and quickly ascend on it to the forested saddle in the Petelinjek ridge. We continue right and continue the ascent on the cart track, which leads us over occasionally panoramic, partly grassy slopes. Higher the cart track returns to the ridge, along which it continues with some ascents and descents. Somewhat further the cart track ends and to the top of Petelinjek we ascend on a poorer path.
From Petelinjek, from which a nice view opens towards the west and north, we continue left and descend along the state border to a smaller saddle, where we reach the Austrian marked path no. 603, along which in a gentle ascent we continue to the upper station of the 3-seater chairlift.
Follows a few minutes of moderate descent on the path, from which ahead we nicely see Peč (tripoint between Slovenia, Italy and Austria), on the right side constantly nicely see Dobrač and further the chain of the Gailtal Alps, then we already reach the Dreiländereck Hütte hut.
