Prtovč - Altemaver (Ratitovec) (via Po(v)den)

Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Škofja Loka, and then we continue driving towards Železniki. When we get to Železniki, at first at the crossroad, where a road towards Kropa, Dražgoše and Rudno branches off to the right, we continue straight, and then a little behind Mercator store, or opposite of company Niko d.o.o. we continue right in the direction of Podlonk and Prtovč. We continue on the mentioned road which starts ascending steeper, and we follow the asphalt road to the parking lot on Prtovč, which is located near the church of Marija Pomočnica.
From the main road in Železniki, to the starting point is a little less than 6 km.
B) From Cerkno, Podbrdo or Sorica we drive to Zali Log, and then we continue driving towards Škofja Loka. When we get to Železniki, we leave the main road and we continue driving left in the direction of Podlonk and Prtovč. We continue on the mentioned road which starts ascending steeper, and we follow the asphalt road to the parking lot on Prtovč, which is located near the church of Marija Pomočnica.
From the main road in Železniki, to the starting point is a little less than 6 km.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we walk past the church and NOB monument to the beginning of the village, where we come on a well-marked crossroad. We continue left in the direction of Ratitovec over Po(v)den (slightly right Ratitovec over Razor) on the road which at first ascends past houses and then turns to the left and slightly descends. The road then changes into a wide cart track, that starts moderately ascending through the forest.
After approximately half an hour of walking, we step on a saddle Po(v)den, where there is also well-marked crossing. On the saddle, we continue right in the direction of Ratitovec, on at first gently sloping path, which ascends through a lane of raspberry bushes, and then passes into the forest, where it starts ascending steeper. The path higher flattens and it brings us to rough forest road which we follow only few 10 meters and then blazes point us to the right on an increasingly steep footpath. The path soon passes out of the forest and brings us on steep grassy slopes (in snow great risk of slipping and avalanche), on which we are ascending towards the right. Higher, the path past rocky towers brings us on the main ridge, where it turns sharply to the left and entirely flattens. Next follows easy and a pleasant path, on which in 10 minutes of additional walking on a panoramic slope, we ascend to the mountain hut Krekova koča na Ratitovcu.
From the mountain hut, we continue on a marked path in the direction of the mountain pasture Soriška planina. The path at first slightly descends to the winter bivouac, where from the right side, the path from the mountain pasture Pečana joins, and we continue straight to watering place for animals, where the path stops descending. The path ahead starts ascending steeper by the grazing fence and after few minutes of ascent brings us on the eastern secondary peak of Altemaver. Next follows a short descent, after that marked path turns a little towards the right. Right at the spot, where the marked path which leads towards Soriška planina turns a little towards the right we leave it and we continue the ascent on a well visible path in the direction of the summit Altemaver, which continues on the ridge of Ratitovec. This path with a nice view we then follow to the highest peak of Ratitovec, which we reach after few 10 strides of additional walking.
