Rotek - Krekova koča na Ratitovcu

Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Škofja Loka, and then we continue driving in the direction of Železniki and Tolmin. Few kilometers after Zali Log we get to a crossroad at Podrošt, where we continue straight in the direction of Sorica and Soriška planina (left Petrovo Brdo and Tolmin). When above Sorica from the left joins the road from Petrovo Brdo we continue right, and then towards Soriška planina we drive only to a crossroad, where roads towards Zgornje and Spodnje Danje branch off to the right. We park on an appropriate place by the road. Lately because of reconstruction of road Podrošt - Sorica, the road is often closed. In this case, we use detour, namely so that at Podrošt we continue in the direction of Tolmin, and then at the first crossroad right. On quite steep road we get to Sorica, where we join back the main road towards Soriška planina.
B) From the direction Baška grapa we drive to Petrovo Brdo, and from there we continue left towards Soriška planina. A little after we join the road from Sorica, we get to a crossroad, where roads towards Zgornje and Spodnje Danje branch off to the right. We park on an appropriate place by the road.
C) From Bohinjska Bistrica we continue driving towards Soriška planina, and from there we start descending towards Sorica. When after few kilometers of descent roads towards Zgornje and Spodnje Danje branch off to the left, we park on an appropriate place by the road.

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on the road in the direction of Zgornje Danje and Ratitovec, from which at first a view opens up towards the church of St. Marko in Spodnje Danje, after the crossing of power line road passes into the forest, through which is ascending diagonally. After few minutes from the road a wide cart track branches off slightly to the left, on which leads the path on Erbelc, and we continue on the road which continues to ascend gently towards the right. A little further from the right also joins unmarked cart track from Spodnje Danje (here another cart track on Erbelc branches off to the left), the road then out of the forest gradually passes on more panoramic slopes. Next follows a turn to the left and with a view on cliffs of Ratitovec we reach a smaller crossroad right before Zgornje Danje. We continue on the left upper road which after few 10 meters changes into a rocky cart track which we follow only to the near wooden shack, where we will on the left side notice the beginning of the marked path which leads on Ratitovec.
The path is at first ascending through the forest and then crosses relatively new clearing, where we also cross a cart track. At this spot because of the fallen trees there aren't any marks, therefore orientation on this part is a little harder, but if we look for a footpath which continues in the same direction, we won't have bigger problems. The path ahead for some time returns into the forest and then it flattens and brings us on a larger meadow (mountain pasture Spodnji Jirn). On the other side of the meadow, by watering place for animals path turns slightly to the left and then right in the forest. The path ahead brings us on a rough cart track, on which we walk only for a short time because then poorly visible signs point us to the left on the mountain path, on which through the forest we follow to relatively new wooden log cabin.
From the log cabin, where we also step out of the forest, we continue in the same direction and we continue the ascent on a poorly visible path, which is ascending diagonally slightly towards the right. The more and more scenic path, from which beautiful views are opening up on Blegoš, Črni vrh and Porezen, higher brings us to an old military bunker, where we can take a rest or we make a nice panoramic photo. From the bunker for few minutes we continue on a badly beaten path, and then we join the path Soriška planina - Krekova koča.
Here we continue right and the path which few times slightly ascends and descends again, we follow to a marked crossing, where the path to Altemaver branches off to the right. Here we can continue right over the peak, or left on the path which bypasses the peak. On the other side of the peak paths again join, and then we start descending towards watering place for animals, which is situated on a smaller saddle below Gladki vrh. From the saddle follows only a short gentle ascent and the path past the winter bivouac quickly brings us to mountian hut Krekova koča na Ratitovcu.
Rotek - Zgornje Danje 45 minutes, Zgornje Danje - Altemaver 1:45, Altemaver - Krekova koča 15 minutes.
