Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled and forward towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards the lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where we come to a crossroad, where we continue straight on the left (south) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and waterfall Savica. We follow this road to the bottom station of the cable car on Vogel, then we buy a ticket and go with a cableway to the upper station, which is the starting point for our tour.
Path description:
From the upper station of the cable car on Vogel we continue right on the road which on the west side bypasses the mountain hut Merjasec. We continue in a gentle descent in the direction of Komna and Vogel, and wide macadam road brings us to a marked crossing. Here we continue right steep downwards in the direction of Komna and mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel. For some time we are relatively steeply descending on a ski track, and then at the crossing we continue left towards the mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel (right downwards Ukanc). The path soon entirely flattens and it brings us to cheese cottage on the already mentioned mountain pasture.
From the mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel we continue slightly left in the direction of Komna and Vogel, and the path towards Komna we follow only few 10 meters, after that caption on rock for Vogel, points us left on a moderately ascending path. The path ahead is ascending through a lane of dwarf pines, and then descends in pleasant grassy valley. Next follows a gentle ascent on the mentioned small valley, and then the path starts moderately ascending. A little higher we get to a marked crossing, where it says left saddle Šija, right Vogel. Here we continue left or right, because both paths after few minutes again join. From the spot, when both paths join, only a short ascent follows and the path brings us to the next crossing.
Here we continue straight upwards in the direction of Vogel (left Šija, right Komna) and we continue the ascent on the path, on which we quickly get to a saddle (1668 meters), which borders on Primorska and from which a nice view opens up on Primorska side.
Here from the left joins the path from Šija, and we continue slightly right on a marked footpath in the direction of Vogel. Further, we short time continue on the ridge and then the path turns slightly to the right, where passes into a lane of dwarf pines. Dwarf pines quickly ends, and a moderately steep path leads over some slopes, and then returns on the ridge, where for a short time steeply ascends. Next follows a short little exposed passage, and then the path passes on the northern slopes of Vogel, where in the early summer we can run into snow fields. After the crossing of slope below Vogel, the path ascends a little steeper and it brings us to a marked crossing, where we continue sharply left in the direction of Vogel (straight Globoko and Komna). Next follows an ascent to the saddle between Vogel and Vrh Krnic, from which a nice view opens up on Primorska side. Here we continue left on a panoramic ridge, on which we ascend in few minutes to the summit of 1922 meters high Vogel.
