Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled and forward towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards the lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where we come to a crossroad, where we continue straight on the left (south) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and waterfall Savica. We follow this road to the bottom station of the cable car on Vogel, then we buy a ticket and go with a cableway to the upper station, which is the starting point for our tour.
Path description:
From the upper station of the cable car on Vogel we continue right on the road which on the west side bypasses the mountain hut Merjasec. We continue in a gentle descent in the direction of Komna and Vogel, and wide macadam road brings us to a marked crossing. Here we continue left in the direction of four-seater chairlift Orlove glave (right downwards Komna, Vogel, Žagarjev graben and Ukanc), which road bypasses on the right side. From the bottom station of four-seater chairlift the path which ahead runs on a transport road, on a ski slope Vogel, starts ascending steeper. The road, by which we also notice some rare blazes, with increasingly beautiful views on Julian Alps, we follow to the upper station of an earlier mentioned four-seater chairlift. Here the path flattens and it brings us to a spot, where the path branches off to the right on a secondary peak of Orlove glave (peak with a cross), and we continue straight on a transport road which on the left side bypasses the main peak Orlove glave.
Further, the road descends a little and brings us on a poorly marked crossing, where we continue on the right road in the direction of Šija and Rodica. Ahead we are short time ascending on the road, and then it ends and it brings us to a marked mountain path, on which we continue the ascent. After a few minute moderate ascent, we get to a marked crossing, where the path branches off to the right towards Komna, and we continue slightly left, on the path which gradually passes on a ski slope. Here the path starts ascending steeper and with increasingly beautiful views quickly brings us to the upper station of one-seater chairlift Šija.
From the upper station, we continue slightly right and in few steps we ascend on an indistinct peak Visoki Orlov rob.
From here the path for some time descends a little and then starts moderately ascending and in few minutes brings us to a marked crossing. From the crossing, we continue right in the direction of Vogel (left Rodica, straight Šija) and ahead we cross slopes of Šija and Vrh Dlani towards the right. After few minutes of crossing of the mentioned slopes, the path passes on the western slopes of Vrh Dlani, where it turns slightly to the left and it starts descending diagonally over steeper slopes. After a shorter traversing, we get to a ridge, from which a nice view opens up on Primorska side, and we descend there to Vratca (1725 meters).
Here right downwards a marked path branches off towards the mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel, and we continue straight and ahead we cross steeper slopes of on maps unnamed peak. Next follows also short steeper descent and the path brings us to the next saddle (1668 meters).
Here from the right also joins another path from the mountain pasture Zadnji Vogel, and we continue slightly left on a marked footpath in the direction of Vogel. Further, we short time continue on the ridge and then the path turns slightly to the right, where passes into a lane of dwarf pines. Dwarf pines quickly ends, and a moderately steep path leads over some slopes, and then returns on the ridge, where for a short time steeply ascends. Next follows a short little exposed passage, and then the path passes on the northern slopes of Vogel, where in the early summer we can run into snow fields. After the crossing of slope below Vogel, the path ascends a little steeper and it brings us to a marked crossing, where we continue sharply left in the direction of Vogel (straight Globoko and Komna). Next follows an ascent to the saddle between Vogel and Vrh Krnic, from which a nice view opens up on Primorska side. Here we continue left on a panoramic ridge, on which we ascend in few minutes to the summit of 1922 meters high Vogel.
