Access to starting point:
We leave Gorenjska highway at exit Hrušica and follow the road ahead in the direction of Kranjska Gora. Just a little before the village Dovje the road which goes to Mojstrana (Vrata, Kot and Krma) branches off to the left. We follow the road ahead in the direction of valley Vrata and we drive there to the road sign approximately 10.5 km. Here we will on the left side of the road notice a smaller parking lot and the road which crosses a river. We park so that we don't close the passage over the river (Triglavska Bistrica).
In the winter time, the road is in Vrata closed. This can extend the path for 1 to 2 hours.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we descend to a stream and on the other side, we go on a footpath which ascends through the forest. After few minutes of the ascent from the right joins the path from the mountain hut Aljažev dom. We continue left still through the forest. After a little less than an hour of walking, we come out of the forest on the scree, where we go right upward towards a wall. Even if there isn't any snow orientation isn't difficult because the path here is nicely beaten. When we come below the mountain walls we turn left and we are still ascending on the scree, which are in unfavorable conditions dangerous for an avalanche or slipping. Further, we are still ascending on the right side of the valley all the way to the spot, where the steepness decreases. When the steepness decreases we walk through the valley full of large rocks (boulders). Further, we continue depending on snow conditions. Usually, we go through the valley ahead and then a little left below Visoka Vrbanova špica. This part of the path is quite steep and if there isn't a lot of snow direct ascent prevent jumps (when is less snow we go right below Begunjski vrh and then we cross to the left). Above that steep part, we come on a saddle, where a view opens up on Triglav. Here we have to the left good five minutes to the mountain hut Staničev dom, which has a winter room. For direct access on Begunjski vrh we continue in the same direction and in a moderate ascent, we cross slopes of Begunjski vrh towards the south. When we come on the ridge we go right and in few minutes we reach the peak.
The upper slope is often icy.
