From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Vodice, and then we continue driving towards Valburga, Smlednik, Zbilje and Medvode. When we get to Valburga, we will notice a caption for castle Stari grad, which points us to the left on a local road. Further, we drive through the village, and at the smaller crossroad in the upper part of the village we again turn left in the direction of the castle Stari grad and marked parking lot. At first still asphalt road we follow good 100 meters and then we park on a marked parking lot by the road.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road by which we've parked, and soon the path from the lower starting point joins (path over Kalvarija). Here the road turns slightly to the right and it brings us to playground on a saddle above Kalvarija. Here slightly to the left steep footpath branches off, which leads to the castle Stari grad, and we continue on the road which is turning more and more to the right. Higher, we get to a marked crossroad, where we continue sharply left and past NOB monument in few minutes we ascend to snack bar on Smledniški hrib.
From the snack bar we continue on a well-settled path, on which we in few steps ascend to renovated castle Stari grad.
