Zaplana (Prezid) - Koča na Planini nad Vrhniko

Access to starting point:
A) Highway Ljubljana - Koper we leave at exit Vrhnika, and then we continue driving on the old road towards Logatec. At the end of the hill Vrhniški klanec, we continue right in the direction of Zaplana, and when we already get to Zaplana, at the crossroad we continue left in the direction of Rovte (slightly right Zaplana church of St. Urh and Martin, Ulovka and Zavetišče na Planini nad Vrhniko). At the end of the hamlet Prezid on Zaplana, we will notice on the left side a smaller parking lot, where we park.
B) From highway Ljubljana - Koper we go to the exit Logatec and then we continue driving to Logatec. From the roundabout, where we reach old road Vrhnika - Postojna we continue right (direction Vrhnika) and we continue driving on the old road towards Vrhnika, and we are driving there only few 100 meters and then we turn left on the road in the direction of Rovte and Žiri. Further, we drive on a gradually more and more winding road, and we are driving there to a crossroad, where a road towards Zaplana branches off to the right. From the spot, where we leave the main road towards Žiri we drive a little less than 2 km, and then we get to the sign, which marks the beginning of hamlet Zaplana - Prezid. We park on a smaller parking lot before the mentioned sign.
C) First, we drive to Škofja Loka, and then we continue driving towards Gorenja vas and Žiri. From Žiri we continue driving on a little more winding road towards Rovte and Logatec. Still before Logatec we will get to a crossroad, where the road to Zaplana branches off to the left. From the spot, where we leave the main road towards Žiri we drive a little less than 2 km, and then we get to the sign, which marks the beginning of hamlet Zaplana - Prezid. We park on a smaller parking lot before the mentioned sign.

Path description:
From the starting point, we go on a narrower asphalt road which ascends towards the three houses. Only a little after the first house, we leave the road because blazes point us to the right on a marked path, which at first runs on an old cart track. Further, the path has few crossings, but if we carefully follow the blazes, then we won't have any problems with the orientation. A little further, we get to a meadow, where the footpath entirely vanishes. We continue in approximately the same direction and then on the other side of the meadow, we step on a wide cart track. Next follows a short descent, and then the cart track splits into two parts. We continue left and after few meters right and then again left (we follow the blazes), by continuing in the same direction until now. Only few 10 strides ahead the forest ends, and we continue on the path which continues by the edge of the forest. Further, the path for some time steeply ascends, and then it is moderately ascending with nice views on surrounding hills and Logatec. After few minutes, the path entirely flattens and it brings us to an old Italian bunker from the time of Rapallo border. At the bunker, the path again vanishes, and we continue through a meadow straight upwards. When we step to the edge of the forest, we look for a big blaze, which marks continuation of the marked path. For a short time, we are ascending by the grazing fence, and then we pass on an indistinct ridge, where we cross a better beaten footpath. We continue on a little more overgrown, but followable footpath which ascends to the road at the lonely house. We bypass the house on the right side and past the garage, we descend to an asphalt road.
We follow the road to the right, and we descend there to a smaller crossroad, where we continue straight on a footpath (path left leads towards the homestead Majer, and to the right we in few steps descend to the road which leads from Zaplana (Jerinov grič) towards the church on Zaplana and tower on Planina nad Vrhniko, the latter road, higher we also join), which ascends on the ridge of Križev grič. The path soon flattens, and then after the peak Križev grič descends to an asphalt road which leads towards the church on Zaplana, Ulovka and tower on Planina nad Vrhniko. We walk on the road past the chapel to a smaller crossroad, where the road splits into two parts.
We continue on the right road (slightly left church of St. Urh and Martin (5 minutes), which soon brings us to a marked crossing, where from the left joins the path from the previously mentioned church, and to the right the path branches off towards Lintvern.
We continue straight on a further macadam road which for some time continues without large changes in altitude, and then it starts gradually descending. After few minutes of descent, we get to the spot, where a marked path on Ulovka branches off sharply to the left, and only few steps ahead also to the crossroad, where we continue on the right road in the direction of the tower on Planina nad Vrhniko. We continue on the road which is short time still descending gently, after that from the left joins the path from Stara Vrhnika and Kuren. Only a short ascent follows and the path brings us to the cottage Zavetišče na Planini nad Vrhniko.
If we want, we can on our own responsibility ascend also on the nearby lookout tower.
