Zell-Schaida - Hochobir (Ojstrc)

Access to starting point:
A1) From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Ljubelj (Tržič), and then we continue driving in the direction of Celovec / Klagenfurt. After Ljubelj tunnel the road starts descending, and we follow it to the crossroad, where slightly right and downwards road towards the settlement Borovlje / Ferlach branches off. The road which is still descending quickly brings us to the mentioned settlement, where we soon cross the railway track. Only a little after the track we join the other road which we follow to the right, and we are driving there in the direction of the settlement Sele pri Cerkvi / Zell - Pfarre. Further, the road starts ascending towards the mentioned settlement, which is situated at approximately 950 meters Next follows a gradual descent to the settlement Sele - Borovnica / Zell - Freibach and to the crossroad, where joins the road past Borovnica dammed lake (description A2). Here we continue right towards the settlement Sele - Šajda / Zell - Schaida and Železna Kapla / Bad Eisenkappel. The road towards Železna Kapla we follow only to alpine mountain pass Šajda / Schaidasattel, where we park on a settled asphalt parking lot. From the entrance into tunnel and to the starting point, it is approximately 33 km

After Ljubelj tunnel the road starts descending, and we follow it to the crossroad, where slightly right and downwards road towards the settlement Borovlje / Ferlach branches off. The road which is still descending quickly brings us to the mentioned settlement, where we soon cross the railway track. Only a little after the track we join the other road which we follow to the left (right Sele pri Cerkvi / Zell - Pfarre (description a1)), and then at the next little larger crossroad right. At the end of Borovlje we get to a roundabout, from which we again continue in the direction of Železna Kapla. We continue driving through the village Medborovnica / Unterferlach, Ostrovca / Ostrouza, Trata / Tratten, Glinje / Glainach, Vesca / Dörfl, Ždovlje / Seidolach, Dobrova / Dobrowa, Kočuha / Gotschuchen, Šmarjeta in Rožu / Sankt Margareten and Rosental, Dolnja village / Niederdörfl to the village Zgornja Vesca / Oberdörfl. Only a little after the last-mentioned settlement we get to a little bigger crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of the settlement Sele / Zell (Pri Cerkvi / Zell - Pfarre, Borovnica / Freibach and Šajda / Schaida). Further, we drive past Borovnica dammed lake / Freibach - Stausee, after which the road becomes a little narrower, and then it quite quickly brings us to the spot, where we join the road from the settlement Sele pri Cerkvi (description A1). Here we continue left towards the settlement Sele - Šajda / Zell - Schaida and Železna Kapla / Bad Eisenkappel. The road towards Železna Kapla we follow only to alpine mountain pass Šajda / Schaidasattel, where we park on a settled asphalt parking lot. From the entrance into the tunnel and to the starting point, it is approximately 38.5 km
B) Over the border crossing Jezerski vrh or Pavličev vrh we drive to Austria and we continue driving towards Železna Kapla / Bad Eisenkappel. In Železna Kapla we leave the main road and we continue driving left in the direction of the settlement Obirsko / Ebriach and settlement Sele - Šajda / Zell Schaida. After few kilometers, we get to a crossroad, where a road branches off to the left towards the village Korte / Trögern, and we continue straight and the ascending road we follow to mountain pass Šajda / Schaidasattel, where we park on a parking lot on the left side of the road. From the border crossing Jezerski vrh to the starting point is a little more than 28 km, and from the border crossing Pavličev vrh approximately 30 km.
C) First, we drive to Dravograd, and then we continue driving towards the border crossing Vič and settlement Labot / Lavamünd Austria. In the mentioned settlement we go left and then we drive towards Pliberk / Bleiburg and Železna Kapla / Bad Eisenkappel. In Železna Kapla we turn right in the direction of the settlement Obirsko / Ebriach and settlement Sele - Šajda / Zell Schaida. After few kilometers, we get to a crossroad, where a road branches off to the left towards the village Korte / Trögern, and we continue straight and the ascending road we follow to mountain pass Šajda / Schaidasattel, where we park on a parking lot on the left side of the road. From the border crossing Vič to the starting point is some more than 64 km.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we walk to the nearby mountain pass, and from there we continue right in the direction of the peak Ojstrc / Hochobir (Ojstrc is the highest peak of Obir). The path at the very beginning leads past a pleasant space for rest, and then on the macadam road, from which a nice view opens up on the northern walls of Košuta, Setiče / Freiberg and more. On the macadam road which branches off from the main road on the mountain pass Šajda we walk to signposts, which point us to the right on the path which starts ascending through the forest. The path which further 8 times crosses the macadam road is most of the time ascending through the forest, but in between there are enough clearings, grassy slopes and thin forest, from where a nice view opens up mainly towards the south and west. When we finally leave the road we ascend on wooden stairs, after that out of the forest we get to a larger meadow, where on the right we notice Kacmun's cross.
At Kacmun's cross the path turns at first left and leads us past the entrance into a tunnel. After the tunnel in the direction of straight continues the steep path on Kravji vrh / Kuhberg (through a meadow pathless terrain), and we continue on a marked path, which turns right in the forest. Mostly spruce forest after few minutes starts to get thinner, and then the path over a grazing fence brings us on panoramic and more and more grassy slopes. The path continues through an indistinct grassy valley towards the saddle Obirsko sedlo / Obirsattel. Few strides before we reach the saddle, marked path turns right (and to the left an unmarked path branches on Kravji vrh / Kuhberg).
Further, we are gently to moderately ascending on the upper slope of Obir, from where beautiful views opening up. A little further, the path for some time entirely flattens and on the left side bypasses ruins of former cottage Rainerjevo zavetišče / Rainer Schutzhaus. A little further, we join the path from the mountain hut Kapelska koča / Eisenkappler Hütte. Here we continue straight and on and by more and more panoramic ridge, which is mainly in snow dangerous for slipping we ascend to 2139 meters high peak.
