Description of mountain:
Idaion Andro or. Idaean Cave (also Ideon Andron; gr. Ιδαίον Άντρον) is situated in the mountain range of Psiloritis at 1525 meters of altitude; a 30 minute hike from Nida plateau on Crete island in Grece. An entrance into the cave is reached down by the stairs, and right there is situated the main part of the cave. You will see snow there even in August.
According to Greek mythology, this is the place where the god Zeus grew up. He was the son of the titan Knossos and the mother Rhea (Rhea was also the sister of Knossos). Since Knossos castrated his own father Uranus, and was afraid of the same fate for himself, he got rid of all his offspring (he ate all his children). Therefore, Rhea hid Zeus in this cave, and Zeus was being taken care of by the nymph Melissa and the goat Amalthea. The demons guarded the entrance, and they drowned out all the sounds made in the cave.
