Description of mountain:
Kleiner Solstein is the highest peak of the famous ridge Nordkette, which is from the valley preventing the views towards the main part of the mountain range Karwendel and is creating a characteristic panorama of the town Innsbruck and nearby surroundings.
Despite the name (Kleiner-smaller) Kleiner Solstein for almost hundred meters exceeds the neighbouring Großer Solstein - the reason for the name is probably that the sharper Kliner Solstein is much narrower than its lower neighbor, and at the same time the approach to the top is more demanding.
Kleiner Solstein was until recently considered to be a quite hardly accessible mountain, but some time ago the path there was marked and on the key spots secured. With that, the highest peak of a well known ridge became accessible to a wider audience, but the ascent there still keeps the characteristics of demanding unmarked path. The peak offers a nice view towards the main part of scenic Karwendel, on the valley of river Inn and on Stubai and Ötztal Alps on the south.
