Description of mountain:
Šoštanj is located in the western part of the valley Šaleška dolina by the river Paka. On the east part of the town is situated lake Družmirsko jezero, which was formed because of the ground subsidence above the tunnels of coal mine Velenje and with 87 meters of depth became the deepest lake in Slovenia. Years ago at the location of the lake there was a village Družmirje, after which the lake got its name. In the village in the time of the middle age the first groups of Slovenians settled together with prince Tresimir. In 14th century square Šoštanj got market rights. All development was transferred to square Šoštanj, which was situated below the castle Šoštanj, which today we know by the name castle Pusti grad. In the 19th century Šoštanj became much more industrialized by the building tannery Vošnjakova usnjarna, which was back then the biggest tannery plant in Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The family villa Široko is interesting to view, which is today converted into a restaurant. In the town center we find the birth house of Karl Destovnik – Kajuh (Kajuhov dom), town park (Kajuhov park), Villa Mayer, tannery museum….
