Description of mountain:
Zugspitze is with 2962 meters the highest peak of the mountain group Wetterstein and also the highest peak of Germany. The mountain is otherwise situated south from the settlement Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the border between Austria (Tyrol) and Germany (Bavaria). On the German side of the peak there is also the mountain hut Münchener Haus, and on the Austrian side there is the restaurant Panorama Gipfelrestaurant. To the summit lead also three cable cars because of them the summit is often very crowded. The eastern peak on which stands a cross is otherwise situated on the German side of the border. Below the slopes of the peak there are situated also glaciers Höllentalferner, Südliche Schneeferner and Nördliche Schneeferner. The latter is with 8.4 hectares also the biggest glacier in Germany.
