Schmalzscharte

Description of saddle:
Schmalzscharte is 2444 meters high saddle or notch in the mountain group Ankogel, which is part of High Tauern. It is interesting mainly because of the source of river Mur (1898 meters), which is situated in the upper part of the valley of river Mur. From the mountain pass a view opens up towards the northern walls of peaks Kaltwandspitze, Kölnbreinspitze and Großer Hafner. The view is also enhanced by mountain lake Unterer Schwarzsee, which is located directly below the saddle. The saddle is accessible also from the valley Maltatal.
